The couches i received is extremely stiff. it won't hold a fold between the baguettes unless i put a heavy weight on each side. is this normal?

I had the same problem. That why I don't use it. Couches are not suppose to be so stiff. I ordered some new one from "Saint Germain" and they are so much better.

No, you cannot moved it into an oven. It will burn. It just to help retain the moisture when the bread is rising. Then you will need to transfer to a baking sheet with the help of wooden tool. It just a rectangle of wood the lenght of the bread.

I did tried to washed it and it ended in the garbage. Those are very bad quality. I bought some from another merchant on Amazon and I was very happy about it. Much softer than those.
