Dont Dismiss - Well worth the money
I was very skeptical when ordering this..... but how wrong could I have been. The warm and wet weather caused a massive problem for us in our new home as we are surrounded by fields and we have huge swarms of mosquito's plaguing us. When I opened the door to let the dogs in we immediately had around 100 of them in the hallway.I bought this unit only a week ago and positioned it away from the house at the back of the garage (which is a damp and dark place) and set it up about 12 inches off the ground. Within 2 days the trap was full. I have never seen so many mosquitoes. Again 2 days later, it was full. I recently moved the trap to another position which also seemed to have a lot of mosquitoes in the area. It is like mosquito massacre. Overnight the trap was half full. Already we have noticed a huge reduction in the numbers getting in to the house and also clinging to the windows when the lights are on. This with the added measure of clearing away any breeding grounds (Pools of standing water e.g. water butts, blocked gutters etc.) is certainly making a big difference.Probably one of the best £55 I have spent.

item difficult to start
The manual is very basic. However I followed the instructions but the fan does not work. I finally found an on button and it is now working

I had hoped that this would be a silver bullet ...
I had hoped that this would be a silver bullet for my mosquito problem and I am not sure how effective this bait is as I have only seen 2-3 mosquitos in the trap over a 3 week period. It does catch lots of moths and I have continued to get bitten, despite ensuring its away from the home, near the source of the problem and located at ground level. I have resorted to a timer to reduce the impacts on the moth population, limiting the device to dawn and dusk hours.

A great product
I read quick a number of mixed and negative reviews on this before buying so thought I'd add my very positive experience. When used and positioned in my garden in accordance with the manufacturers instructions, this really does work! After only 3 days continuous use I've just emptied the trap which contained literally thousands of dead midges! The power cord supplied is long enough to ensure optimum positioning in most situations and the instructions are very straight forward and easy to follow. I can only assume that the negative comments come from people who haven't read or followed the manufacturers instructions.

Should be sold as a moth trap, it doesn't catch mossies though.
This has been in the Garden for over a month and it has not caught a single mosquito... It is however an excellent moth killer.Follow the link on the packaging to get advice and more details and it seems connected essentials sells all sorts of stuff, but not a mention of the mossie trap anywhere on their site. I guess that says it all. Avoid, the mosses certainly do!

and I was so pleased I have just bought another one
Used this successfully last year and the year before. Was impressed by the amount of midges it caught. We have a very large garden (1 acre), and I was so pleased I have just bought another one. It needs to be left to run continuously, and the ocetenol cartridges are a must. It will not eliminate the midge problem completely (they blow in from the surrounding fields), but it certainly reduces the population. Another method I use is a 400w security/work light left on all night for a week or two to cover a large area around our pond. The midges hit the hot glass and are "zapped". The best time of year to do this is just after the first hatch - where we are the first week in June sees the most killed. We can pick therm up in hand-fulls some mornings!

Brilliant! Forget the negative comments, they're people who didn't read the manual. This thing works and works very well.
Absolutely brilliant! Works a treat. You need to read the manual otherwise you end up like some of the negative comments here because it works by ATTRACTING midges and mosquitos to them trap them. So you position it AWAY from where you are. Also, note that it works by interrupting breeding cycles so it TAKES TIME. It's not something that immediately works. You're removing a population of midges and stopping the breeding cycle. Use it correctly and it's amazing.
