When set to sync to the 12v mb control does it stay in that mode after a power cycle?

Yes it does stay in it's synchronized state after you sync it the first time. You won't have to constantly sync it after powering on your PC, if that's what you're worried about.

If you're trying to sync to motherboard connected devices, you're going to have to use software to sync it.

Is it possible to take off the 5v 3pins on the splitter?

I don't understand your question. The unit I bought came with a set of 3 cables. One allowed me to connect to an available 6 pin 12 volt socket on the MB. That power cable split into two leads. The larger lead was plugged into the Transfer hub. I think I connected my LED lights onto the smaller lead on that power cable. So, I have 2 unused small cables that were not connected into the Transfer Hub. One of those small cables is a 3 pin splitter that splits into three 3-pin leads. If you don't need to use that particular 3 pin splitter, don't connect it to the transformer hub. My LED lights slowly fade into different colors and that was good enough.

Bought parts for someone, who wanted RGB on his build. Not being a big fan of RGB myself, I did not know there were different standards for that... and of course I ended up with 3 pins 5V ARGB fans incompatible with a motherboard with 4 pins 12v RGB header. I was a bit skeptical about having to use and extra SATA power connector, but happy to say it did fix my problem. After connecting two sets of fans there is even an ARGB connector left thanks to the provided splitter. Control via remote works, I had to leave it hanging at the back through a PCI expansion hole for ease of access. Sync with the mobo I used (ASUS B660M) sort of work but colours are however not mapped one to one. This was mentioned by the vendor, so can't fault them for that. Overall a rather simple fix for relatively cheap.
