This is the most Kryptonite of Kryptonite locks, thick, strong, difficult to pick or cut through. Not impossible to defeat, used correctly, but about the best you'll get. Also, because of that: very heavy. What I don't like is the frame mount. No matter how it's mounted or adjusted, the mount (& lock) slides and pivots, often into the way of your pedaling, and with the size of the lock and the way the lock fits into the mount makes it difficult to impossible to mount out of the way (e.g., in the seat/cross/down post triangle).

I feel that my bike is super secure. This thing is heavy duty. It’s known far and wide to be a really good luck and when I went to lock my bike up my E bike that cost a lot of money I noticed that the bike right next to my bike had the same brand it was a lot older model, but it looked just as tough back then.

Well, it's a Kryptonite U lock, so much better than any cable lock, (don't even waste your money on those if your bike has any value at all. You might as well hang a sign, "STEAL THIS BIKE!") If anything, use a heavy chain at the very least. The stronger "FAHGETTABOUDIT" version is just too impractical because it's so short. I want to be able to just slip this on when I park, not figit with trying to work it into a tight spot and maybe scratch the paint. It is ironic that the LIGHTEST bikes cost more, so we need a HEAVIER lock to secure them, and this monster lock is not light by any means. There's some misinformation about the "Protection" offer. It doesn't say you HAVE to have insurance (as some have said), but it looks like you DO need to register your Bike (and Lock) ahead of time. From their website: "Remember this is an OPTIONAL offer and you MUST register to participate in the Program." You also have to notify the police within 72 hours, and Kryptonite within 7 days. Probably the only sticky point is they want a pic of the broken lock or may even want to see it in person. A thief might just take the lock with him to prevent fingerprint ID. I've seen some complaints about it being hard to unlock after using it for awhile. I'm wondering if that's from thieves who tried to pick the lock but failed. They might have damaged the pins, trying to ram screwdrivers or whatever into it. I debated about buying two lesser locks for the same price as this one. Seems having two locks is preferrable, although no lock is completely theft-proof. Any lock can be defeated given enough time and opportunity, like leaving your bike outside overnight. I might eventually buy a 2nd Kryptonite down the road for my $2800 Trek Domane, maybe the "Lite" version to compliment this one.

This lock is hefty. I have no doubt that my bike is safe when I lock it up with this lock. It is large enough to easily maneuver around bike racks, street signs, etc. I have two issues with the lock, though. The first, is that the mounting system cannot fully support the lock for more than 2 days of riding before it loosens and the lock starts wiggling around, slipping down my frame, or turning to the side and interfering with my pedal stroke. I have had to use a small piece of velcro to secure the lock at the bottom of my frame to combat this, or just carry it in my backpack or back pocket. The other issue is the locking mechanism itself. It regularly snags and is often difficult to fully insert the key. I even spent 10 minutes once trying to dislodge the key from the key shaft because it got stuck. My solution? Beat on it until it loosened. Overall, this is a very sturdy lock that I would trust in any setting. While the downfalls are annoying, they would not dissuade me from purchasing this lock again.

This is a monster of a lock. Worth every dollar. If you have the original sales receipt for the bike you are locking, it comes with one year of protection against theft. After that you can pay a premium to insure your bike.

I never write reviews but I am making an exception here. I am starting to use my bike again after a year of not using it and I went to go clean my bike up and noticed that the lock had defended my bike from an angle grinder attack at some point without me noticing! I have no doubt they would have gotten away with my bike with any other lock. Looks like it worked so well they got tired of grinding! Worth every penny!!!

It’s substantial and I feel more assured that my bike is secured when using it! When it’s not in use on the bike, I use it as a weight to build up my strength! Works exceptionally well for multiple uses!

Ordered this twice and both times the lock came damaged. First on the actual U lock portion and the second time on the cylinder. The quality control on the shipping is either non-existent or extremely lax. For a lock this expensive and highly rated for its build quality and security, I would expect the lock to survive a simple delivery

Deuxième antivol Kryptonite que j'achète, le premier était pour mon single speed vélo et celui-ci pour un 2ème vélo "ville". C'est du solide, y a pas photo. Et le système d'attache au vélo est bien pratique, même si sur un vélo de ville j'ai eu un peu de mal à trouver le meilleur emplacement. Et le gros plus est la garanti contre le vol offerte par Kryptonite, ce qui est un gage de leur confiance dans leur produit. C'est quand même une garantie d'une valeur pouvant aller jusqu'à 3500 €. Si mon vélo en vaut bien moins, je me dis surtout qu'il aura l'utilité de décourager les éventuels voleurs... Mais vivant en région parisienne, je me dis que la garantie en bonus n'est pas de trop...! En plus on peut enregistrer ses clés pour pouvoir en faire faire un double si jamais on venait à perdre celles fournis à l'achat. Donc a priori un excellent antivol, même si avec ses 2 kilos il n'est pas le plus léger :)

Ho acquistato la Kryptonite New York con staffa a U e posso dire che si tratta di un prodotto eccellente per chi cerca sicurezza e robustezza per la propria bicicletta. La serratura è realizzata con materiali solidi e dà un’immediata sensazione di affidabilità. Il meccanismo di apertura e chiusura è intuitivo e funziona senza intoppi, rendendo l'uso quotidiano molto pratico. Questo lucchetto rappresenta un deterrente estremamente valido contro i tentativi di furto, grazie alla qualità costruttiva e alla reputazione del marchio. Pro: Robustezza: I materiali sono di altissima qualità e garantiscono una protezione eccellente. Sicurezza: Ottimo deterrente contro i furti, perfetto per aree urbane a rischio. Facilità d'uso: Il meccanismo è fluido, comodo sia in apertura che in chiusura. Contro: Peso: Il lucchetto è abbastanza pesante, il che può essere un po' scomodo per chi si sposta spesso. Unfortunately my bike lasted only 1 month before getting stolen within 3 hours in the middle of the day while it was locked with this lock on university campus. No parts of the lock or the bike were left. Not sure how they can open a lock like this but they definitely can. My office window is also just above the bike storage where I left my bike and I didn't hear or see anything strange. I assume they might have a way of picking the lock.

Bestes Fahrradschloß, dass ich kenne. Sehr stabil und sicher. Deshalb verschenke ich es auch regelmäßig an Freunde. Der einzige Nachteil ist das etwas höhere Gewicht. Aber das nehm ich bei der Sicherheit gern in Kauf.
