We have used this for our guinea pigs for many years when they are not eating as normal, after it was originally recommended by Ellie - The Guinea Pig Vet. We always keep a sachet ready. Guinea pigs have to eat regularly, or gut stasis can occur, that can be fatal. If they are off their food (which should consist of 80% highest quality timothy hay), we feed four times a day in a 1ml syringe with the end cut off. We aim to get up to 10 syringes in if we can each feed, but don't ever force a guinea pig to feed that is not swallowing - just take your time between increments. It has got our guinea pigs through some serious medical conditions and is particularly invaluable post-op. Great stuff!

Oxbow animal care, is brilliant for my pets, excellent value, you really notice a difference when the tortoises are a bit sluggish, give them a bowl of this and watch them pick up, our dragon lizard loves it to, thank you.

Been absolutely amazing. My bunny is very very unwell and not eating. Been recommended this by multiple vets. Easy to use. My other two bunnies love the taste and keep licking it off her face! Definitely recommend having on hand. I’ll buy another shortly as a precaution!

We always have at least one pack of these in reserve for our guinea pigs because you never know when something will go wrong. It is vitally important for syringe feeding sick piggies and has kept many of our pigs alive in times of despair. It takes some practice to get the consistency right but it's just a matter of adding water to it and using a syringe (multiple times to get enough!) so it's easy enough. All piggies are different so some take to it quite well and others tolerate it but once it's in their mouth they generally digest it pretty well. It is a bit expensive but it should hopefully last a long time and is for emergencies (or, as its named, critical care).

Essential product to have in a small animal first aid kit. I bought this for one of my guinea pigs to use as a supplement feed after some unexplained weight loss. It came with the measuring spoon, and the instructions are straightforward. The boar it was intended for isn’t too keen on the flavour. He will sometimes eat it if I mix it with a little banana or apple puree. My other boy loves this flavour though, so I think it’s down to their personal preference (and how fussy they are!) After having to buy 5 different recovery foods to figure out which one my boar would eat, I would strongly recommend trialing a few different types/flavours before a period of illness/an emergency so you know what they will willingly eat, and also so they are used to syringe feeding.

This is necessary for any guinea pig first aid/medical emergency kit! I always have one on hand in case they stop eating due to illness & they’ve saved my guinea pigs lives before. They’re expensive for what they are, but (fingers crossed) you shouldn’t need it often so it can last a while & it’s WAY cheaper to have your own on hand than buying the exact same thing in smaller quantities through a vet when needed, so I recommend buying to save in the long run. Mine seem to like the smell, but I usually have to add quite a bit more water than recommended and use a syringe for thicker fluids, it’s very effective when used as advised & can be the difference between life & death for pigs!

One of our little bunnies went into GI stasis and we found out about this when doing research online over a week-end when our exotic animal vet was closed. We took our little bun to an animal urgent care and they were going to admit him to do "exploratory surgery" (don't ever do this, most bunnies never survive the surgery and you don't need to do this if your bunny has GI stasis). I wish I had known about this so I would have had it on hand before our bunny got sick but it arrived super fast through Prime (phew). (You never know with Prime, depending on the item, the day you order it etc. etc. it could take up to 4 days to receive an item nowadays with Amazon Prime.) Its super easy to use, the instructions are on the bag, it comes as a powder and you mix it was warm water and feed it to your bunny using a feeding syringe that you can buy from a pharmacy in the baby aisle. If you only have 1-2 bunnies, this small size is more than enough, you don't need the bigger bag. It sort of has a pungent lemony scent which is pretty disgusting when your bunny poops it out, but you'll never be more thankful to see bunny poop in your life! Our bunny didn't seem to mind the taste (we tried various organic veggie baby foods and he hated those, but he went for this pretty ok considering....) If your bunny goes into GI stasis, please do not give your bunny an enema (there are well meaning people online who recommended this to us but our vet was against it.) What you want to do is help your bunny get hydrated at the vet with subcutaneous fluid therapy, we found that and the Rx laxative and pain reliever (for his fairly large gas bubble that we saw on his x-ray) to be the most helpful things for our little bun. He was hydrated twice and only on the pain reliever, laxative and this food for 3 days in total before he returned back to normal. We set our alarm clock to wake up every two hours to check on our bun during the night when he was too sick to move and when his temperature dropped we surrounded him with lightly warmed rice bags that seemed to help bring his temperature back up and also the warmth was comforting to him. Its a super scary thing to go through so I highly recommend you have this on hand "before" you need it for just in case.

Un indispensable ! On apprécie l'évolution avec la mise en place d'une petite cuillère doseuse dans le paquet. Par contre, ce n'est jamais vraiment claire la quantité et la fréquence à laquelle l'administrer. Je l'utilise depuis des années et tous les cochons d'indes ont toujours adooooorés (cela aide énormément quand ils sont pas biens.. et cela permet d'être un bon indicateur pour suivre l'évolution de la maladie par exemple, s'ils refusent d'en manger ou réduise la quantité. Petite astuce/rappel, Après ouverture, à conserver au réfrigérateur. Perso, je fais bouillir un peu d'eau lorsque je le prépare, cela permet de vraiment de bien mélanger ce complément à l'eau ! La quantité d'eau est en fonction de la texture souhaitée. Si l'animal mange un peu par lui-même, une texture pâteuse est OK 👌 et à mettre dans une mini gamelle par exemple. Par contre, s'il ne veut pas seul, le "choc thermique" frais/chaud facilite énormément l'administration de ce complément avec les petites pipettes. Au début, je ne savais pas et j'avais l'impression qu'il y avait plus d'eau qui passer dans la pipette que de complément... 😅 +++ important +++ Familiariser et habituer ses animaux, au plus tôt, aux pipettes (en donnant ne serait-ce que de l'eau). Cela sera très important et fera la différence lors des périodes où ils seront malades (vous pourrez leur donner les pipettes en les laissant dans leurs cages) bon... Que certains médicaments 🙃 (si ça sent pas bon ou mauvais goût, ils se font rarement avoir deux fois ;))
