Southwire 58279840 1/8 in. 240 ft. Steel Fish Tape

Exactly as described and worked perfectly. The hook on the end kept getting caught in the roof of the gas station that I was wiring so I had to straighten out the end but other than that no problems whatsoever.

Great tool for the price.

I truly expected more from this Southwire Fish Tape. It is difficult to insert and remove the tape from the case. The plastic used in the case is too lightweight and flexible, causing the two parts to bind and not slide smoothly against each other. For someone like me, who uses a fish tape once a year or less, this will work just fine and was a good value compared to other products.

Like many other reviewers have noted, mine came with the fish wire bound up inside the unit... try as I might, it wouldn't pull out, so like others have noted, I unscrewed all three of the Philips head screws holding the round outer casing together, and as one would expect, the wound up spring wire inside exploded into a giant mess (but watch your eyes as you do this!). It was easy to untangle, and after pulling the free (attach to wires) end through the guide within the black inner ring, I was able to hook the internal (never supposed to be seen) end of the fish wire around one of the posts/columns that house the case screws, and then to wind the wire back up, just as it should have come in the first place! Overall, not a big deal since I knew I was likely to get a 'defective' unit and since it seemed like the price was reflective of this knowledge (~$12 instead of $17). Also, not a huge deal since I bought the 25' Fish Tape.. It would've been a much bigger hassle to deal with 100'+ length, although much the same process, I suspect! After the repair, It seems like it'll work just fine. I think the manufacture and quality of the parts and materials is adequate, but the assembly itself was lackluster.

This thing has held up well, with some tough use. The leading end has got a bit bent up, as most seem to do, but overall it is very sturdy considering the price point.

Sorry but total junk. Wouldn’t spool out and then after taking it apart and putting back together it still didn’t spool. Messy!

Delivered broken and impossible to use as it does not unwind, waste of money.
