Review Praise for David Mark (.)There is a good array of villains, and Mark is impressive in his sensitive portrayals of the relationships between the principal characters at work and home. (The Times)Aficionados of the grittiest, most trenchant fare love Mark's copper Aector McAvoy, who customarily moves in a darkly realised Hull. (Financial Times)Mark's rich, distinctive prose style and damaged characters compel you to keep reading... shaping up to be an essential crime series (Crime Scene Magazine)A brilliant read. (Sun)In McAvoy, David Mark has created a big hero with a huge heart. His skill at weaving threads of light through the darkest fabric has rightly won him a legion of fans who like their crime fiction to be real and compassionate. (Sarah Hilary)Truly exhilarating and inventive. Mark is a wonderfully descriptive writer and an exciting young talent. (Peter James)David Mark takes McAvoy to the US on a rollercoaster ride into darkness. Brilliantly written and compelling. (Steve Cavanagh)Dark, compelling crime writing of the highest order (Geoffrey Wansell Daily Mail)More twists and turns than a corkscrew through the eyeball (Val McDermid) Book Description A murder and a missing person case puts McAvoy on the track of a man whose desire for revenge is unstoppable - but who may not be the worst criminal involved. About the Author David spent more than fifteen years as a journalist, including seven years as a crime reporter with the Yorkshire Post - walking the Hull streets that would later become the setting for the Detective Sergeant Aector McAvoy novels. He has written eight novels in the McAvoy series: Dark Winter, Original Skin, Sorrow Bound, Taking Pity, Dead Pretty, Cruel Mercy, and Scorched Earth as well as two McAvoy ebook short stories, A Bad Death and Fire of Lies. In 2018 it was adapted for the stage at the Hull Truck Theatre and had a sellout debut run. David has also written The Zealot's Bones, a historical crime novel published under the name D.M. Mark.He lives in the north of England with his family.

Back with a bang and more blood
David Mark has Aector McAvoy on top form and wilfully stupid as ever going off by himself, and not telling anyone where he is going, not once but twice; the latter resulting in a very bloody denouement and another visit to hospital and will have the scars to prove it. This is a tale of revenge and double cross told with a good deal more background than previous book and all the better for the improbability of it being The human traffickers being persuaded by an illegal immigrant to finance and take part in his mission of retribution and how he knew where his prey lived - ignore it and enjoy yourself

Great novel and a great character
Another great novel in the series of DS McAvoy books. Original stories and it’s great to read stories that aren’t set in London, New York, but set in Hull, Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire. These are areas I know well and it gives me an added interest when I drive past somewhere I’ve either visited or recognise. It doesn’t matter to the reader who doesn’t know the areas as the book has a great plot and characters. Already looking forward to the next one!

Fabulous book, fabulous author!
Superb writing, as always! I can't recommend David Mark highly enough, his books also have the added bonus of being majorly based in hull, where I live. Everybody should try as least one of his books and they'll be hooked.

Another cracker for Aector!
It's comeuppance time for one of Mark's nastiest villains. This book is his best yet, but you need quite a long memory to get all his past references. As a fan, I have.

Another excellent McAvoy novel
Having read all of the previous McAvoy novels, this was very much enjoyed with the usual dark detail and twists and turns; highly recommended.
