Can this be used as a nightlight?

It depends on how you would sleep with light in the room. You can dim this light a bit but it's definitely brighter than a traditional nightlight

Sort of. It can be turned off using smart tech however because the lamp is dimmable and color can be adjusted, the ability to turn the lamp on by smart tech seems to be problematic. Maybe someone more savvy than myself has figured this out and can provide some instruction on how to make it work.

Is this bright enough to light up a room or is it more for a night light/reading light?

It has 3 brightness settings and def a unique lamp. This is not a dynamic lamp. It would be equivalent to a 40 watt bulb, maybe. If you are looking for something brighter... beyond a funky night light... keep looking! I also must say this really is a delightful piece for making a statement.

Lamp is fine but...

This table lamp is fine, works as described but there is a flaw. The lamp CAN NOT be turned on and off by a wall switch. It needs to be controlled with the in line dimmer/on off switch. So if you are looking for a lamp that turns on and off from a wall switch, this is NOT the lamp you want to buy. I will keep it as a decoration, but as for functionality, it is useless to me.
