Perfect OEM Replacement
My old string had become stretched , causing the engine to not want to return to idle. Replacing this spring fixed the problem. Throttle mechanism now works as new. On my engine it was necessary to remove the carburetor in order to access the mounting screws for the bracket. I would highly recommend also ordering the Autokay adjustable carburetor and replacing the non-adjustable one since you need to remove it anyway and it is very inexpensive, and allows you to adjust main and idle mixture to get this engine running the way the engineers intended. There are a couple of good videos on youtube showing you how to replace this spring. Note: you may need to perform a governor adjustment after replacing this spring.

Fixed Surging Issue
I have a Craftsman 9HP snowblower and it would surge. I watched some videos online and first tried cleaning out one of the jets and then tried blowing some Berryman B-12 into the carb with no luck. Another video suggested replacing this spring and that did the trick. Make sure you bring some patience as a first time doing this it wasn't fun getting the new spring in place. The only other problem was the screw that contacts the spring needs some adjustment as the motor was revving too high. I used a cheap digital tach that you wrap around the spark cable and you then tune it down to 3600rpms. I think my screw used a T10 torx. After that the snowblower is running perfect.

Works great.
The governor spring can lose tension over time causing the engine to surge, hesitate, over rev, etc. This OEM part can correct these conditions. It's very easy to replace.
