Tom and Jerry: Spotlight Collection, The Premiere Volume (DVD) (Repackaged)

First off, I am a huge Tom and Jerry fan. The idea of cat vs mouse should not work so well, but it does. Even with little dialogue these are some of the funniest shorts I have ever seen. To me they are just as good as the Looney Tunes shorts. Although there are several single disc releases of the toons, I knew if I waited long enough we would get a box set of them. Also many of the single disc releases are censored, which is absolutely rediculous. Now we get a 2 disc set of 40 remastered shorts that are supposedly (and hopefully) uncensored. That would be the way to do it since they were meant to be seen in all of their original glory.I have searched everywhere but I can't find an episode listing yet. Maybe the studio hasn't released that yet, but I did find info on extras for the set:Commentary by Jerry Beck on The Zoot Cat, Heavenly Puss and Kitty Foiled. Buy this if you love the classic Tom & Jerry.I've purchased all 3 volumes of the Tom and Jerry Spotlight Collection as well as the Chuck Jones DVD. That covers all of the episodes other than the Gene Deitch episodes and supposedly 2 or 3 others that are so racially charged that they have been censured from existence.All are labeled as being for adults because some of the episodes contain smoking, drinking, and racism. I contend that they were hilarious when I was a kid and still are. Given that I didn't turn out to be a chain-smoking, alcoholic, member of the KKK, I can only assume that watching these episodes does not have that effect on children. If you believe otherwise, please stick to the modern broadcasts or look elsewhere for entertainment.At the time when we got these episodes my daughter was 4 or 5 years old and got very upset when anything bad happened to anyone in a cartoon. Tom and Jerry was the perfect thing because they continually do mean things to each other and keep coming back for more. There was no long term impact. It could just be a funny cartoon. In short, she quickly grew to love them and we've watched all of the episodes multiple times. I think it helped me give her a grasp on what was real vs what was pretend and silly. Your mileage may vary. ...after all, your child could grow up to be a chain smoking alcoholic member of the KKK if exposed to this filth.

Rare kids cartoons

Great Tom & Jerry set. Good price set. Has bad cut through cover art though . Bonus Tom and Jerry Kids.

Hanna-Barbera, in the Tom and Jerry phase of their careers, are right up there with Michelangelo and Van Gogh and El Greco. The incredible subtleties of expression and body language, especially with Jerry and Nibbles, are a treasure trove. Disney, of course, is responsible for some wonderful animated films, but these shorts just thrill my heart. I saw these as a kid, but I didn’t REALLY SEE until now. Please buy all three volumes while they’re still around, and thank your lucky stars for Warner Video and Amazon. I hope they run these in Heaven. What would Heaven be without them?

Sorry, but I must correct the previous post by Mark Clegg. The UK Region 2 discs are far from uncut. They have been "politically corrected" to death. Not only are there many cuts, but on many of the shorts the distinctive voice of the black woman with the slippers and broom has been dubbed over with a "whiter" alternative. How could you not notice this?Censoring a black woman for sounding black is sheer lunacy, not to mention an insult to the actress!Not only that, but the Region 1 set contains the shorts that were produced in Cinemascope in the original widescreen ratio, on the UK Region 2 set the image is cropped with a good two-thirds of the image lost.And why on earth would any T&J fan want the later shorts after the Hanna & Barbera era? These are virtually unwatchable - might as well go for "Tom & Jerry - The Movie" while you're at it! Urgh!Forget the UK sets, this Region 1 set is the real deal!
