THE PROOF OF THE USE OF GARDEN CHARCOAL WILL BE WHEN MY RAISED BED WILDFLOWER 'MEADOW' IS IN BLOOM. HOPEFULLY, BASED ON ADVERTISING, IT WILL DETER GARDEN PESTS, RETAIN WATER, AND ADD MINERALS TO THE SOIL. SEE PHOTOS BELOW OF PROGRESS. SINCE THE LAST PHOTO, TWO LAYERS OF GARDEN SOIL HAVE BEEN ADDED. THE CHARCOAL WAS NEXT, WITH ANOTHER LAYER OF SOIL. REVIEWER NEEDS MORE GARDEN SOIL BEFORE ADDING THE SPECIAL RAISED-BED SOIL THAT WILL BE ADDED AS THE LAST TWO LAYERS. A SCATTERING OF BONE MEAL WILL BE BETWEEN THE TWO TOP LAYERS. NEED MORE SOIL. :>)

Decent Charcoal. I'm Working at Grinding it for science experiments, but its taking a while. it is in pretty large chunks, and some is not charcoaled enough to be ground because its too hard.

This product absorbs juglone, the defensive poison that walnut trees emit from every surface. Since walnut trees never stop production of juglone, reapplication is necessary from time to time. There are two other solutions: Plant annuals. Carefully select truly unaffected plants which are few in number.

This is supposed to be 4 quarts? No sir. Not even close. The quality looks good though.

All of the other brands had much smaller granuals that would wash out through the screened drainage hole when watering. This is the only brand I could find with granuals large enough not to wash out, but still a good size for 8" pots. I was a little dissapointed by how small the bag was, but I only used maybe 1/4 of the bag lining the base of two wide 8" round Planters. Overall I would definitely recommend this product and will likely buy it again.

This is exactly as described, it arrived as promised, appears to be well made, and a good value for the money I just wish they would put a packing slip in the package. This came in the manufacturers packaging 👍 Limited or no single use plastic 👍 No polystyrene foam packing (styrofoam) 👍👍

There are a couple faults with the listing for this item. Overall, there are about two CUPS, not 2 QUARTS. Secondly, this doesn’t appear to be activated charcoal, just regular. It doesn’t make the little sizzling type sound when it gets wet, which activated charcoal does due to the tiny pores pulling in water. Since it doesn’t seem to be activated I don’t have any expectations that it’ll do much in the way of pulling out impurities. But it will help keep my soil from compacting which is a benefit.
