Tales of the Damned: A Collection of Classic Horror Stories

4.5 Stars A fantastic book! Filled with 8 rewritten short horror stories. The illustrations are utterly brilliant and there was a perfect balance of words to illustrations. The eight stories are: The Masque of the Red Death Dracula The Monkey's Paw Red Riding Hood Frankenstein Vasilisa the Daughter Whistle and I'll Come to You Bluebeard All were fantastic, with Dracula and Frankenstein being my favourites. It must be hard to rewrite a classic book, especially horror as so much relies on the atmosphere. So to make these short stories have such an impact is a real credit to the author. I really liked that the themes were so varied. Vampires, ghosts, witches, evil men, scary fairytales - A brilliant selection! I think it is also perfect for people that aren't huge horror fans but enjoy a spooky read around Halloween! I'm a wuss when it comes to scary things so rarely read them but really enjoyed this!

Perfect for spooky season! But for fans of horror, and those with dark souls, this is a book to dip into all year long. This gruesome collection of stories, ranging from the gothic gem Dracula to a cleaver wielding Red Riding Hood, will quench any thirst for thrills. Or blood. Loved reading the tales alongside the brief histories. As a holistic therapist I’m always drawn to a good witch story, and Vasilisa the Daughter, with her malevolent poppet, is a stunning tale of burning revenge. The illustrations are the stuff of nightmares. Perfect.

It is a great little book overall. Didn't realise that it was bits of horror stories though. But illustrations were pretty cool.
