Well laid out. Interesting section in the middle with different topics that you can dip in and out of for interest.

I ordered this for my daughter who is keen to research the origins of words. The book is absolutely fantastic and exactly what we expected.

Although it does not give you the complete academic explanation, it is perfectly sufficient even for adults.

John Ayto's book includes the etymology of a vast amount of words, this does not have general definitions as it is a dictionary of word origins. Essential for the Primary classroom (and beyond I have no doubt) as a means for exploring the fascinating history of words, support pupils to understand where the words graph and phrase come from and indeed a full definition of every prefix and suffix to support morphemic analysis, crucial to comprehension.

It was in a used condition. Stamps inside, pencil marks and the edges are tear and wear.

This was a great resource that has helped my daughter tremendously as she looks up words. The history and additional information makes it easy to see how the current meaning and the origin relate and changed over time. Definitely recommended.
