Buy foil tape as well.
My wife has a very sensitive nose and started smelling something coming from the vents. Similar to a gym sock. We Called out an ac company and they said our ac was to old to deep clean because bit might not work after it was put back together because of leaks. Our ac is 18 years old and I believe them. Their recommendation was deal with it, ad a uv bulb to an old system for about 500 bucks or switch out acs. I found this on Amazon and figured it's this or switch acs as dealing with it wasn't an option. Install time was about 15 minutes after getting the ladder and what not together. You will need to purchase ac ductwork foil tape to minimize air leaks out of the system. You can buy that online or Depot as well. I used a knife to cut into my ductwork. Very easy. It's about a month later and the smell has lessened quite a bit. I assume time will eventually kill the smell completely. It's fighting 18 years of yuck and costs less than a service call so I'm very happy.

Peace of mind - totally worth the cost
I found the coil on my 10 year old Carrier system had a refrigerant leak during annual maintenance. After doing quotes from four companies, we went with a Trane system that included a five-inch Honeywell filter bay. We bought this when we knew the whole system was going to be replaced and the installer put it in for free. He even wired it into the air handler, so I don't need to run an extension cord. Now I have a U/V light shining on my brand new Trane coil and a 5 inch MERV12 filter keeping particulates out of the air handler. It's been a week, and all of our family members with asthma and allergies have really noticed the difference. I don't know if it is the light or the filter or a combination, but air quality in our house is better than it has ever been.

Day 1 just installed
First off, I ordered this on a Sunday afternoon and it hit my doorstep today Wednesday, didn't pay for the upgraded shipping option, used free shipping. Installation took about 15 minutes: Cut out the template with an x-acto knife, taped it to the supply plenum and traced it with a sharpie. Drilled out the corners with a 1/2 inch drill bit and cut out with tin snips. Checked the fit and snipped a bit more to allow for more clearance. Inserted the bulbs and fixed the unit to the the sheet metal. Wired mine a bit different, since I didn't have an outlet I wired it directly into the furnace switch. Taped the four sides with metallic duct tape and flipped the switch on. The monitoring light is on steady. It's been running for 3 hours now. The cigarette smoke smell has completely dissipated! Since we live in a 'no smoking' duplex it has been a challenge smoking outside during the cold weather. I run the furnace fan constantly using 3m filters with activated carbon to kill the odors. No strange smells or odors. Will post an update after a 30 day run, but so far, so good!

Easy to install! Haven't noticed a difference in air quality though.
This was an easy install for me. However, I am not a novice. I ended up installing a dedicated outlet right next to my HVAC unit in the attic specifically for this uv light. I installed the light and turned my unit back on. I do not know if it is actually doing anything about the purity of the air though. I've only had it installed for a few hours but I also changed my return filter too. My eldest Sun (6) currently has a upper respiratory infection, I think I have something going on in my sinuses. My 1yo Sun is snotting around too with some congestion. We gave them some meds and I used the netty pot tonight and we will see if we get some relief and keep from spreading our illnesses to the ladies of our family!

Not what was described. Advice?
The Honeycomb on mine appears to be made possibly of plastic, NOT Aluminum. When changeing the original bulbs aprox 2 years after purchased, I found what appeared to be 2 melted or deformed troughed areas, about1/8 to 1/4 deep in the pco honeycomb directly parallel with the bulbs. I know at times I smell something like hot lint or dust near the returns over the time. I was about to contact the company listed on the lable, but they dont offer this model on their site. Was it discontinued or possibly counterfeit? Im still betting this is plastic not aluminium. Why would UV break this thing down? Heat from bulb? Its 3 years old and not sure about trusting it so its been unplugged for the past year. I wish someone could enlighten me on this. I would sincerely appreciate it.

Original bulbs lasted the whole year.
I've had this for a bit over a year. I just replaced my lamps for the first time, they didn't burn out after continous operation for the whole year. I just changed them as part of seasonal preventative maintenance. My HVAC system also has a merv 16 filter and i have not had an allergy problem at home for over a year now.I have had much improved sinus and allergy symptoms. My family has not been sick, but that could also be from social distancing/covid measures. Our air quality feels great and we do not have an odor problem.

*Review After +3 yrs: Do not buy*
Do not buy! This review is being submitted after using this product for +3 years. Every year diligently changed both bulbs with recommended bulbs only. Have all receipts.Upon attempting to change 4th round both the holders which holds the bulbs found cracked and disintegrated in my hands. This clearly indicates the plastic this company uses is not UV safe. Clearly means the plate on top supposed to generate ions is also of dubious quality.Effectively can not recommend at all. If a company manufactures UV lights but they use parts which are not UV resistant speaks volumes of their approach and standards.
