Secret Empire Prelude: The Road to Secret Empire

Interesting take
Love the built up to the attack in Pleasantville, although it was more comic like storytelling from the 90s it turns out it was part of something bigger which could s Secret Empire. Looking forward to reading that!

Captain America the Supreme Leader of Hydra? You bet!
Captain America takes over as Supreme Leader of Hydra. Now the other heroes have to figure out how to get him back. It's a must have series for anyone who wants to see what it would be like have Cap work for the other side.

Secret Empire
Secret Empire (Marvel 2017, collecting Secret Empire #0, Secret Empire: Free Comic Book Day 2017, Secret Empire #1-10, Secret Empire Omega #1)So, whew eh? Cap wasn't *really* a nazi all along- or rather he was, but his entire past had been changed by a smashed Cosmic Cube reborn as a little girl who had a very bad influence in her life. That's a relief, and I bet you feel stupid now for all those angry tweets you sent out. I mean, it's comics- this sort of thing happens all the time, and you really should have known better, don't you think?Anyway, Secret Empire is rather good. It's interesting that Spidey is barely in this one (perhaps three panels in the whole thing), because writer Nick Spencer has a definite handle on just about every one else... which rather begs the question as to why he seemingly can't write the webslinger for toffee, as his 70+ issues of the current series demonstrate. This contains a hell of a lot of characters, and they are all well served, even if some may display rather too much similarity to the versions we saw in the movies, rather than their comic-accurate histories. Maybe the MCU and the MU are merging more quickly than we thought- because at times this reads very much like a two-part cinema blockbuster. I could easily see Secret Empire rounding off the MCU Phase 6 or whatever. As for the art, it's okay. I don't overly like any of the artists on show here, but despite that the momentum of the story kept me reading, so I have very little to complain about. I'm also not a reader of the regular Avengers or Cap titles, so I have no idea if/how this had repercussions throughout the rest of the Marvel Universe in the last four years, as the ending rather suggests might be so. But, all told, if Marvel (and comics generally) must do these 'Event' stories, I'm glad they are occasionally of this quality.

The story is alright and the art is great, but the díalogue is horrible
The story is alright and the art is great, but the díalogue is horrible. It’s like the movies, and in fact every line Maria Hill utters is a pop culture referencing awful joke. It is her making a quip, cap replying properly, quip, serious reply, quip, serious reply. It is hard to read and irritated me. I’m normally an x-men reader not avengers, I just hope this isn’t normal for the series.
