Targus Drifter Essentials 16" Laptop Travel Backpack, Black (TBB63805GL)

Well designed backpack I am replacing a 10 year old Targus backpack that I liked very much, but has worn out. While a bit different, it has many of the same features and even a few newer ones. I wanted to be able to keep the same basic organization of items in the new backpack. For example, I wanted two full size side pockets, small internal pouches for chargers, etc., a zippered internal pocket for a passport, and other compartments. This one had it all.

In contrast to a Tumi unit I previously used, this backpack has significantly enhanced my carrying experience. It offers ample storage space for individual items. However, I would have preferred the inclusion of a strap for securing my laptop in place. If the backpack were to unexpectedly fall over, the laptop could slide out of its secure location and potentially sustain damage if the zippered pocket is open.

I feel completely ripped off. I purchased what I believed was the same Targus bag pictured, but I wasn’t aware of the specific model name. The bag I received was smaller than expected and, more importantly, lacked the zippered side compartments I really wanted. Targus makes a great bag and I own the bag pictured for the past 4 years, but the retailer seriously misrepresented the product and misled their customers.

Not the item in the photos. Targus changed the design for this particular item number and it doesn't come with some of the best features, for some reason. No strap for the laptop compartment and no top pouch (which was one of the best things about previous bags). I will be returning, and shame on Targus for changing a fantastic design.

Product video clearly shows "zippered side pockets" and mine did not have them. Everything else is the same, but it lacks the zippered side pockets. I'm returning it for a different model and hopefully it will have the side pockets as advertised.

I can fit 2 laptops and a portable monitor with ease and still have room for travel necessities. The materials could be a little stronger. Expect great service from this backpack while it slowly falls apart. I absolutely trashed my first one through a few years of vigorous construction work. Immediately bought another. Comfortable to wear even when loaded, if you have to carry it when heavy try looping your hand through the shoulder straps before grabbing the top handle. For the price point this bag can not be great. Pay more and you get more... maybe. But try and find any other pack with this many zippers and pockets at this price. If you're worried about an occasional tear or sign of wear and tear buy 2. You will still be saving money.
