Probably the best outdoor camera i've used. The video quality is very clear , it detects everything and records everything. You can view the recordings almost immediately after they've been recorded, this is not like Amazon's Blink camera that runs on batteries, but I prefer a wired connection, no need to swap out batteries , easy to mount in place ... Just get yourself a high quality mini SD card ! Don't waste time with Yi cameras (those have tons of ads), and Blink cameras don't capture enough footage to make them reliable ( they record in clips). These record everything! Very easy to install and get up and running.

I’ve been using the Tapo C500 outside for a bit now, and overall I’m impressed. The pan and tilt feature is the real star here. Being able to rotate the camera and see everything around it from the app means there are basically no blind spots, which is exactly what I wanted for outdoor security. Motion tracking works well and follows movement smoothly without being jittery. The only issue with emotion tracking is that if something moves too quickly through its field of view it isn't able to keep up with it. But that's really only a problem if you're trying to keep up with every car that passes your house. Night vision is clear enough to easily see what’s going on after dark, and setup was straightforward. I also like that you can customize the light and sound alarms if you want an extra layer of “hey, you’re being watched.” It connects on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only, which is fine for most setups, just something to be aware of. I'm still on my 30-day trial of the paid service. I'm pretty sure we're going to go ahead and pay for it. The service seems solid and I've had zero issues with it thus far. Not to mention the price is very reasonable. Overall, this feels like a solid, reliable outdoor camera with good features and strong coverage for the price.

Ok so let me start off by saying that I hardly write reviews… unless I am particularly satisfied or dissatisfied with a product. This product warrants an honest review based on my experience since receiving the product. I was looking for a camera to mount on my back patio so that I could monitor my back door entryway, my backyard items, my backyard access points, and my utility room with all of my high priced lawn equipment, power tools, etc. This camera was extremely easy to mount by creating a small entry point into the corner of my patio ceiling, pushing a fish stick through it, retrieving the fish line from inside my attic, securing the power cord to the fish line, and fishing it back through to the outside of my house on the patio. Inside my attic, the power cord is connected to an extension cord and plugged into an outlet that I have in my attic. Once connected to power, it was very easy to connect to my WiFi network and configure in the Tapo app. Now, what do I like about it besides the super easy setup and mounting? The picture is crystal clear. The camera has the ability to control the direction is it facing via the app and has the ability to view 360 degrees. Also, it has the ability to adjust the settings for monitoring notifications for when it picks up movement. It also has the ability to set it up where it will flash a bright light when it detects movement, which to me, seems beneficial for at night time because it will let anyone it see’s know that they are being monitored. It has the ability to sound a siren alarm for detected movement, or you can manually sound an alarm to the device through the app. It is sound capable so you can hear the sounds in the general vicinity of the camera and it has the ability for you to speak through the camera to whomever is near it. According to the app, it also has a call function, but I have not yet tried that function out yet. Most impressively, you have the ability to pan/tilt the camera using the app from a different location if you want to see a wider view or higher or lower than it is already set, up to a maximum of a full 360 degree turn. Through the app, it has the capability of automatically recording any movement and saving those recordings to your device “cloud” and it does not appear to re-write over its recorded videos as long as you have enough storage on your “cloud” for the data required depending on how much footage you have recorded. For the price, this camera is hands down an excellent value for a purchase, especially for those of us who do not want to pay an outside company for camera security services. This is an excellent alternative. I will be purchasing several more of these cameras to mount around the entirety of my house. For the price, quality, functionality, and ease of installation, I highly recommend this product to anyone who is currently in the market for outdoor cameras on their home.

Beautiful video quality with a lot of functionality. Like how it automatically pans and tilts to follow visitors. Mounted easily but connecting the camera to my WiFi system and Echo Show and Echo Dot devices, but the setup was a bit involved. The unit has produced very few false detections. I have it turn on the unit's light's when it detects motion at night to let visitors know they are being monitored and the audio alarm turned off unless we are gone for several days. I Inserted a MicroSD card to store motion and person detection without having to have a cloud account monthly subcription. This camera is a great value!!! I don't know why, but it dropped connection once ... was easily reconnected by just replugging in the AC adapter. The sound it makes when panning and tilting is a little annoying.

I just put another one of these cameras in my cart. I've had one up since July and it still works perfectly. I do not use the cloud service, instead in installed a memory card. Super easy setup. It follows people, animals, bugs lol, it will pan and follow just about everything while recording. Super easy to view and watch recordings. I can download any recording with a quick click of a button to my phone. If I leave a review, it is either awful or I like it that much. If you're looking for a inexpensive, very good quality camera, I recommend this camera. Also, it paired easily with my alexa so I can use the camera with the app or alexa. This camera has been through snow, sleet, storms, not a single issue. When the camera is tripped, it records and puts it in a quick and simple location. Open it and with the memory card I can see any movements for the last 24 hours. You don't have to watch tons of video. From there, click download. That easy and you do not need another app or program to watch it and you do not have to spend a single penny, unless you want to pay for the cloud service which I cannot tell you how much that is. Get this camera, you won't be disappointed.

Value for the money with night vision , video is clear and fast. Wish it’s a little quieter when rotating but hey for $40 it’s a really nice cctv camera and I don’t have to pay monthly subscription.

Excellent Camera - Outstanding Performance and Reliability! I've been using this TP-Link Tapo C500 for several weeks now, and I'm thoroughly impressed with its performance. After less than 24 hours it started whining loudly when it pans. Really loud. The pan feature is useless if you want to be able to detect. There is only 1 layer for detection zones and it is the same in all the “viewpoints” you set up. If you defined the sidewalk when it is facing forward, and the camera pans to the left, that same detection area is now in the middle of a tree. The camera ends up just staying pointed at the leaves blowing. The only one that really works is the default total area detection zone. This picks up a lot of leaves blowing in the wind but there’s a better chance you might see the car drive in your driveway too. But it defeats the purpose of having zones. Also I have to reboot this 2 or 3 times a day because it gets stuck recording the movements in one small area. Even if a car goes by the detection zone (which is the full viewing area) the camera never notices and records it. The camera won’t pan to catch the car. When I try to pan thru the app I get a message saying it can’t be panned anymore in that direction even though it should be able to, since it started out at the higher view. Only way to fix it is to reboot. There is no reason it should error out like this. Not worth the trouble of always rebooting because you miss events in between if you haven’t rebooted. They must know about the issue since there is a place in the setting to have a scheduled reboot occur. In the online help it says… “ Q7: What should I do if I receive the message "Camera Pan-Tilt has reached the maximum extent in this direction. Please drag to another direction" when panning or tilting the camera in the Tapo app, even though the camera lens is not at the limit? A7: You can try the following steps to resolve this issue: Step 1: Ensure the screws are tight in the camera card slot and the rubber seal is seated. Step 2: Navigate to the camera's Device Settings > Pan & Tilt page and click on “Pan & Tilt Correction”. This will help recalibrate the camera's position. Step 3: A simple reboot can often resolve calibration issues. After restarting, test whether the camera can pan and tilt correctly to its limits. Step 4: If this phenomenon occurs infrequently (e.g., once every few days), consider enabling the “Auto Reboot” feature in the camera's Device Settings > Reboot Camera page. This can help ensure that the camera operates smoothly over time.” It doesn’t state what to do if this “phenomenon” happens frequently, like several times a day. Tp-link makes crappy products. Only good thing is you don’t have to send to cloud and its the only reason I picked this brand but what use is it if all you get is an image of moving leaves while listening to the audio of a car driving up or on a bad day the sounds of your car window getting smashed in. Would not recommend

This is my fifth Tapo camera and they all perform very well. I combine them with Kingston branded micro usb cards for storage and have not had any problems with initializing the cards as I have read in some other reviews. I find the 1080p provides a clear picture during the day and adequate night time depending on the distance. If I was using this for a business to protect against vandalism I would probably go with the 2 or 4 k versions. The software that they provide is versatile as well. One feature I like is the ability to save views so a single click pans to a preset rather than having to move the camera manually. Tracking feature is also nice.
