Too much time

I use a smaller microwave kiln and wanted a larger one and ordered this, the details shown on amazon states that glass will fuse in 5 minutes, it took over 20min to partially fuse a relatively simple piece of bullseye glass, the frit did not fuse as expected, even after 20mins there was no glow at the hole on the top of the kiln. My concern was that the inside of the microwave was extremely hot, the glass turn table was so hot when I wiped it, it fizzed with heat, which means the heat was not contained withing the kiln. I would not recommend this kiln, it does not fuse in 5mins, 10mins, or 20mins too nervous to try for longer, my microwave is 900w sufficient power for my smaller kiln which does fuse in 5 mins, I expected longer fusing times because of the kiln size, my biggest concern is the heat is not contained within the kiln and I have no idea how long it would actually take to fuse glass effectively, I do know it far exceeds the 5mins stated in the product description

Fabulous

Just love this kiln. Will definitely get another. I have 2 small ones also and all are used daily. I just love the largest one as it can fit 4 good sided moulds in. I use stainless steel cookie moulds. 😀

Not Keen on this one!

I bought this one after I had bought the smaller one. I have to say I prefer using the smaller one. The glass doesn’t have the same shine once it’s cooled. I’ve tried it on longer timing settings but nah I don’t use it. I stick to my smaller one.

Easy to use, light weight.

I love this, the added size allows me to make 3 pendants or pieces for a mobile at the same time. It does take longer to cook/fire and longer to cool down. I suggest using thin kiln paper with it as it leaves the base of your work smoother and clean.

Scary

I've never done any glass craft before. So, at £40 it seemed a good place to start. My microwave is an 800w so I knew I'd have to use trial and error to get the timing right. Let it cool down completely between attempts. Result was not bad for a first timer.Next day I produced something nicer. In the afternoon I got a bit more adventurous and wasn't so tight fisted with the amount I used. I put it on for 25 mins. Heard a couple of 'tings', accepted that the glass had probably cracked.10 mins into the firing, the microwave stopped working and changing the fuse didn't make any difference. Can only assume that the heat from the kiln has fried the inside of of the oven. Now, not only can't I 'play with my new toy', but I'll have to buy a new microwave. Not happy.Do these things actually get safety checked before being sold to the public?!!
