This food has 300 calories per an 8oz cup but dogs are supposed to have 800 calories a day. 2 cups (breakfast and lunch) plus treats (normally about 5 calories per treat) plus exercise will have your dog the healthy weight you need. I would advise not to use this food when your dog is at the healthy weight as it may make then skinnier than they need to be. I have to use this during the winter months because my dog gets xmas dinner and thanksgiving dinner and we don't really have time to exercise (we go on vacay a lot during the winter).
