great razor. no gimmiky 360 swivel head, great battery life
So far this is the best foil shaver since my old series 7 i had for over 8 years using the old 70s heads that are hard to find. Its battery finally quit and i got a series 6 and then 7 of the newer style they have now. Both of those were major downgrades. This series 8 shaves as good, or better than that old series 7 and is rubberized on the back which makes grip better than the old 7. I like the included charging stand. If you're trying to decide between thos and current series 7 offerings the 7 is less powerful and the 360 head makes it cut weird and horribly on my neck and around my ears, whereas the 8 here hits both in a few glides on each side to ensure coverage. I compared both with new heads and the 8 wins hands down. Its louder than the 7, but not by enough to matter. And I've now had this a month, literally charged it the night after i got it and haven't needed to since, and i shave daily, this shaver is so effective and efficient that i literally get done in a few passes over my face, it barely uses any battery per shave. 1 month and 5 days from daye of receiving abd intial cgarging at my house and it finally needed another charge. That's awesome, if i can go about a month on each charge cycle this razor will last a long time. Its still cutting really well and shaving great as well. Still highly recommending this line over brauns current series 5/6/7 offerings. You get far better performance and functionality, better battery life and they feel built better. I had a 7075cc i upgraded from, the 360 swivel head is just a useless gimmick that, in my opinion actually made its performance worse than old series 7 i had that finally bit the dust. Plus the new series 5/6/7 heads are thin and clog with hairs very quickly, don't wash easily and aren't easily snapped on and off compared to the series 8. If you're trying to decide on spending a bit more, get the 8 and spend more its worth it. Better shave, extremely longer battery life, better features on the shaver, and just overall a far better bang for the money. Only thing is the 83m heads these use are $60ish each to buy replacements for, but i can live with that for the performance they provide me.

Perfect for me.
Bought this shaver to replace my old series 5. This shaver is lighter & does a better job than my old Braun. I have been using an electric since the mid '70s, since I went into the armed forces (you had to shave every day). My face couldn't take a Trac II everyday so I went to a foil shaver (on sale in the PX). I tried Norelco, but that shaver irritates my face after a while. Have always had Braun, the heads always gave me a clean shave, guys were surprised of the close shave I got from my Brauns. Electric shavers didn't have a close shave reputation back then. I'm 71 & this is my 3rd one. I think the Braun shaver is getting better. I liked the plastic shell of the old shaver model better, took a beating, protected the shaver in travel. Have to wait & see with this new style travel case. Nowhere to carry a cleaning brush. The shaver is quiet compared compared to my old shaver. Braun's battery life & recharging life has always been very good. I've always found Braun comfortable to hold in various ways when shaving. Blades last me a year, sometimes more. Price is on par with others make of shavers. I've had 3 in just over 25 years.

Switched from a Rotary - and love it!
I've used Norelco rotary shavers for decades and was always happy with them. However, as the blades wore out, I could no longer find quality replacements—even from Norelco. I tried their latest rotary model, but its oddly shaped head was difficult to use and incapable of providing a comfortable, close shave. I decided to try a foil shaver and ordered this Series 8. The difference is astounding! The shave is super close, fast, and comfortable. It’s also easy to clean, and the replacement blades cost about half as much as rotary ones while offering the same quality. I even ordered a couple of extra blades to have on standby, though I may not need them for a year or more. This shaver is a bit noisier than the rotary, but the quick, ultra-close shave easily makes up for the extra sound. After 10 uses, the battery still shows nearly full. An excellent shaver!

Excellent
This is an excellent shaver. Having purchased the series 7 twice before, I can clearly say that the series 8 is a far better decision. If you are thinking of the series 7, skip it for the series 8 which does a far better job as a shaver. Slightly more pricy, shaving is far more efficient and at a lower price than the flagship series 9. Many reviews seem to concur with this. Great shave, excellent battery life and included moustache trimmer. My single biggest gripe is no usb charging. It is absurd that such sophisticated shavers still require a dedicated proprietary charger. This means carrying another charger when travelling. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a great shaver with good price.

Best Shaver I’ve used.
If could give this product a 10 I would. I owned a 5 for about a decade and really liked it. But the 8 shaves even closer and it’s a smoother finish on the shaver. I have sensitive skin and it gets irritated easily and I have no problem with this shaver. It’s lighter than my 5 was too. It’s quiet and doesn’t pull hair which the 5 did occasionally. I figure it should be at least as durable as the 5 was. Which by the way is still working. I just am finding it difficult to get new heads.

Soild Performer
I looked at and tried several electric razors and this Braun Series 8 foil razor best fit the bill for me. It gives me the closest shave with no irritation. I feel that has to do with the higher apparent speed of the cutting blades. I've used electric razors for probably 30 years, my previous one is a 20 year old Panasonic. Build quality of the Braun is outstanding, particularly the high quality cutter head design. It only has 3 cutting edge components which seems ideal to me. I tried other razors with up to 5 cutting surfaces and they are just too unwieldy to use in the nooks and crannies. Also, battery life is amazing. I charged it up when I first got it and it is going on 3 weeks now only dropping one bar on the LCD display. I shave every day. My model came with a travel case which should work fine. My only knock on the razor is, it does not have a cutter head guard for protection when traveling. This is something I'm used to and think it should be part of the Braun package. A guard is not available as an accessory, I checked with Braun. This is a very solid performer. Very happy with purchase so far.

It is too expensive. But it is the best I have ever seen.
This is about the best electric razor I have encountered. I put a charge on it and followed the instructions. I have very fine hair and a very light hair on my chin. Normally only a blade gives me a smooth skin on my face. I will likely try it under my arms to see if it works there like it did on my chin. Read the safety instructions. Do not use it while on the charger. I am still learning all the fine points of this electric razor. They need a good instruction writer. For now, everything is automatic.

Quite a decline from the greatness of thirty years ago
First some context. I checked four review sites before buying. This is one of the highest-rated shavers on the market today. My dislike and low rating are based on comparing it to a thirty-year-old Braun 5 series which finally had to be replaced. THE GOOD -The battery is replaceable. Sadly, this wasn’t true for my old shaver. Otherwise I would still be using it. -The charging/cleaning stand design is better than the one for my old shaver. -The electronic lock. My old shaver once turned on while in my suitcase, draining quite a bit of the battery before I heard it and was able to get it turned off. This new one requires a three-second button push to lock or unlock the on/off button. -The trimmer. This is good and bad. It’s smaller, which yields more precision. But it doesn’t do as good a job as the one on my old shaver. THE BAD -The manual. Lots of drawings and far too few words. Some drawings are easy to figure out. Most are not, and I have no idea what they are telling me to do. -The head. On my old shaver, the head was fixed. It basically lasted forever. The cutters attached to the shaver and moved freely. They were replaceable, and at much lower cost than the current head/cutter combo. This is an inferior, unnecessarily-complex design and requires higher owner costs to maintain. I assume the reason for the design change was to put more money in Braun’s bank account. -Shave quality. One, maybe two, gentle passes with old shaver got my skin completely smooth. With this new one, I have to make several passes. Even after that, I can still feel short hairs which were missed, presumably due to the poor head design. And my skin feels sore in spots afterward. -The fancy display. What’s wrong with that? A few things. First, I don’t need a battery meter. My old shaver had two lights. Green meant fully charged, and it turned off as soon as the shaver was disconnected from power. Flashing red meant it was time to charge, and I could always get at least one shave out of it before it really needing to charge. I don’t need multiple bars so show me that the battery is getting lower. That just reduces battery life. Second, there is a little display of, I guess it’s the head, in white. What does that tell me? No clue. I looked at the manual. Again, no words, but a few drawings that seem to tell me how to do something associated with the little head display light. Third, a couple of water droplets on the display. I assume that has to do with cleaning. Once again, the manual proved useless. And good heavens, I can pop the head off and look to see if it needs cleaning. All three of these little battery-using lights could be gotten rid of, and the shaver would be better. -Size. All of the current generation shavers are significantly larger than my old one. I can’t figure out why. If it has to do with the silly displays, that is definitely a negative. Larger battery? Don’t need one. Before it died, my old battery lasted a week easy. That is plenty, unless one plans to be in the wilderness for an extended period of time. But then why bring a shaver? The big issue is that the larger shavers take up more precious room in luggage, and they do it unnecessarily. -The trimmer. As mentioned above, this is good and bad. It’s smaller, which yields more precision. But it doesn’t do as good a job as the one on my old shaver. It requires more metal-on-skin pressure and still gives an inferior result. Would I buy it again? Sadly, yes. It is one of the best shavers on the market today. And if I didn’t have my old, dead, shaver to compare it with, I would be happier. It is just knowing that it doesn’t do as good a job, costs more now and in the future, and won’t last as long, that makes me really dislike it. If I had no previous frame of reference, or if I only had other current generation shavers for comparison, I might be happy with it. So I’ll keep it, use it only when necessary (I mostly shave with a blade), and curse Braun every time I do.

A significant improvement over my Phillips 9000 series
It only took 35 years for me to decide to try this type of shaver over the traditional rotary head design used by Phillips that I’ve used since I started shaving (since my dad and grandfather also used Phillips) I bought a Phillips 9000 series two years ago and out of the box, wasn’t impressed. Gimmicky Bluetooth and app, large area around the shaving heads preventing me from getting to hard to reach areas, and a battery that didn’t last 2 years (and isn’t replaceable). This Braun is awesome - shaves fast and super close - the cut hairs are minuscule once you clean it out (and don’t end up all over my t-shirt as was the case with my Phillips). … and - you at least have a chance at replacing the battery - full disclosure I fried the PCB board on my Phillips trying to solder a new Li-Ion battery in a vain attempt to save it from the trash …

Switched Back From Blades, Quality Product
I originally used electric shavers in the 1980's but have been using blades and cream since then. A much better experience these days and no cord when shaving. This shaver is amazing and provides a very close alternative to blades. I like its portability and vanity top charger that automatically turns off upon achieving the full charge level so that the shaver is always ready to go. With the advent of unjust price increases and unsavory straight blade manufacturing origins, I wanted something from an alternative source. I chose manufactured from Germany for its unmatched quality reputation. It is everything I hoped for in an electric shaver. Although not owned by Germans it is a worthy investment for my personal hygiene needs.
