Fantec QB-35US3R Hard Drive Enclosure for 4x 8.89 cm (3.5-Inch(SATA I/II/III Drives Black

I have a decent NAS with 4x8Tb HDD's but wanted more space without upgrading the NAS or the expense of the Synology extender, so I thought I would give this a go, and I am very happy I did :) It has 4x 3TB WD Reds in a RAID 5 array, so if a drive crashes I don't lose any data, it has now added an extra 9TB to my NAS in the USBSHARE folder, you can't control permissions as much but if you put stuff on it you want to share with everyone it's great :) The setup is very simple and just takes a few button presses , nothing could be easier to be honest. I am very happy with the noise levels and performance (120Mbps on average though USB 3.0 to the NAS)

Bought it to store my hard drives with movies on it, but keeps freezing everytime tried to play a movie, got a replacement but still does same, I've read on one review that maybe not compatible with my hard drives. Have to return it back as can't use it.

Installed 4 x Seagate Barracuda Compute Drives into a RAID-5 configuration. Followed the instructions, ensure the device is connected to a PC, set-up was very simple and easy to do. Read speed 210Mb/s, Write 130Mb/s. A good replacement for my 13yrs old WD My Book Pro II. 6Tb of usable and resilient space. Nice :oD

The unit was up and running for over a year (during which time I liked it) but one night it went dark. Rather than investigate the failure and risk compromising the warranty I decided to return the unit (drives removed) for repair/replacement. After initial reluctance the vendor told me to wrap it up and return it to them which I happily did - my mistake. Within minutes of receiving the package they advised it was not repairable (which sounds like indecent haste) and they would refund (which they did) but that was not what I wanted. It is my opinion that only the power supply had failed but I will never know because they resolutely refused to return the unit to me even though I was prepared to forego the warranty and refund. In my view the vendor was not interested in repairing and the manufacturer was not interested other than to confirm the warranty duration. I have to say the AsusStor software support team were very responsive to my queries when I was using the device (5 stars to them) but it seems hardware support have their hands tied with some considerable chains.

Mine is a four bay unit. At the moment I have 2x 2TB + 1x 4TB, and it runs fine. There were initial problems with Win 10 and it's not having seen one before, but after a few reboots, and presumably a Windoze driver install, I've not had any problem with it. I have it attached to an eSata daughter-board, but it runs as fast (at times even faster) as the motherboards sata ports. As stated above, I have a 2 by 2 by 1 by 4, but it's registered by the OS as having 8TB, not the expected 6TB. I presume this is because I have the larger drive as the 3rd drive and no 4th drive. I was considering trying my 4x 8TB drives in one of these, but since only 2x 6TB have been tested on them, I'm not sure. The 3x8TB works fine.

Did not work for me. Returned for refund, Have not yet checked if my disks were also damaged. cannot recommend.

I use two of these each with 4 x 8GB drives in RAID 5 format. Never had a problem.

I used to have a similar enclosure by a company called 'StarTech'. I wanted to buy a second enclosure just incase the first broke as it would be very difficult to get the data off the Raid10 drives. This enclosure looked so similar, almost like an updated version, so figured there was a chance it could read drives from the old StarTech enclosure. And it worked! The enclosure seems well built and I've had no issues setting it up.

Ein Gehäuse für Festplatten, anschließbar an einen Computer via USB 3.0, um seine Daten auch auf einen externen Datenträger sichern zu können, das ist erstmal nichts besonderes. Wenn es aber mit Raid 5 daher kommt, dann schon eher. Also habe ich das "FANTEC Qb-35US3R Externes 4-fach Raid Festplattengehäuse" mal bestellt. Kam binnen weniger Tage an, habe es sofort ausgepackt. Und schau, da ist eine echte Gebrauchsanweisung drin. Und nicht geschrieben in allen Sprachen dieser Welt, sondern nur in den für unsere Breiten relevanten Sprachen Deutsch, Englisch und Französisch (Spanisch wäre auch noch okay). Das hat zur Folge, dass man die recht ausführliche Gebrauchsanweisung ohne Lupe lesen kann. Es ist nicht jeder unter 30. Als jemand Mitte 50 nervt es zunehmend, dass man die meisten Gebrauchsanweisungen, sofern es überhaupt eine gibt, ohne Lupe kaum noch lesen kann. Also Gebrauchsanweisung gelesen, anschließend war der Zusammenbau ein Kinderspiel. Habe vier SATA III HDD Seagate Barracuda zu je 4 TB verbaut. Alle benötigten Kabel werden mitgeliefert. Also dann das FANTEC Festplattengehäuse an den Computer angeschlossen und Strom drauf. Es wird (vermutlich wegen den vier verbauten Festplatten) sofort der Modus Raid 5 vorgeschlagen. Ich habe den Raid Modus Bestätigungstaster auf der Rückseite nicht sofort gedrückt, weswegen das System noch in einem Raid 0 lief (denk ich mal). Auf jeden Fall identifierte Windows 10 alle vier HDD jeweils für sich. Nun gut, dann konnte man noch testen, ob jede der vier verbauten HDD für sich funktionsfähig ist. Danach das System runtergefahren, FANTEC Festplattengehäuse wieder angeschaltet, den Raid Modus Bestätigungstaster auf der Rückseite gedrückt. Jetzt wieder Windows 10 hoch gefahren und schon erkannte Windows 10 das Ganze nur noch als eine große Festplatte (mit ca. 75% der Kapazität der Summe der vier Einzelplatten, halt Raid 5). Diese Raid 5 Platte noch formatiert, anschließend riesige Mengen Daten rüber kopiert. Klappt einfach perfekt. Die Geschwindigkeit habe ich noch nicht "wissenschaftlich" gemessen. Aber es erscheint mir ziemlich schnell. Große Filme von 4 GB (alte digitalisierte VHS Videos) werden geschrieben von meiner internen SATA III HDD (auch Seagate Barracuda 4 TB) über USB 3.0 auf den FANTEC mit im Mittel (deutlich) über 150 MB/s . Die Geschwindigkeit bestätigte sich beim Kopieren eines 16 GB großen Raspberry Pi Image. Mir erscheint das schnell, zumindest übertrifft das alle meine Erwartungen. In umgekehrter Richtung, das Schreiben von dem FANTEC auf meine interne SATA III HDD mit im Mittel (deutlich) über 200 MB/s machte mich endgültig sprachlos. Wie schon gesagt, diese Geschwindigkeitstests sind noch nicht endgültig bestätigt. Kann sein, dass mein 32 GB großer Arbeitsspeicher die Ergebnisse etwas "schönt". Und sich blind nur auf Windows-Geschwindigkeitsangaben verlassen sollte man auch nie. Sollten sich im Laufe der Zeit andere Messergebnisse auftun, wird das hier ergänzt. Kurz zusammengefasst: Ich bin begeistert. Wenn man ein riesengroßes externes Datengrab in Raid 5 will oder braucht und es kein NAS sein soll, dann das "FANTEC Qb-35US3R Externes 4-fach Raid Festplattengehäuse" kaufen! Vorsicht, es gibt auch Varianten dieses Festplattengehäuses ohne Raid. Also auf die Typbezeichnung achten. Eine Anmerkung zur Größe: Auf den Bildern erschien mir das Gehäuse ziemlich groß. Aber mit ein wenig mitdenken war klar, dass es so groß wohl nicht werden wird. Naja, man hätte sich auch die Maße anschauen können, dann wäre es klar gewesen. Die Größe ist ganz einfach beschrieben. Unten so groß, dass vier 3,5" HDD rein passen. Und oben noch etwas Luft, es braucht ja noch Platz u.a. für die LED Anzeigeleiste. Die LED Anzeigeleiste kommt sehr informativ daher und rundet den guten Gesamteindruck endgültig ab. Fällt mir noch ein: Ja, das "FANTEC Qb-35US3R Externes 4-fach Raid Festplattengehäuse" kann auch die Raid-Modi 0, 1, 3 und 10. Wenn man aber das Festplattengehäuse voll bestücken will mit vier HDD, wüsste ich nicht, warum man etwas anderes als Raid 5 haben wollte.

Carcasa externa con RAID por hardware para 4 discos. En mi caso, lo uso solo para hacer backups con Macrium de forma automática y desatendida. Este Fantec se monta siguiendo las instrucciones porque es un poco lioso, pero las instrucciones son muy claras. No vienen instrucciones en español en la caja, pero sí las hay descargables en la web de fantec.de. Hay que ir a downloads y buscar por QB-35US3R. Con todo, las instrucciones en inglés son suficientes a poco que lo entiendas. Una vez conectado y creado el RAID, el sistema lo reconoce como disco único. Fabuloso, silencioso, no hay nada por software, el aparato se configura y lo hace todo por sí mismo. Standby cuando apagas el ordenador. Standby si no lo usas. Se pone en marcha inmediatamente en cuanto lo necesitas. Graba datos a toda pastilla, en mi caso supera los 240 Mb/s medido por CrystalDiskMark.

Ce boîtier à la facilité d'utilisation d'un disque dur externe avec des performances et une capacité de stockage évolué. En fait, il n'y a pas grand-chose à reprocher au système qui s'avère être livré avec un mode d'emploi détaillant toutes les étapes d'installation clairement (et en français !). La configuration (une fois les disques installés) se fait à l'aide des boutons de l'appareil de manière très simple et si vous ne connaissez rien au RAID le mode d'emploi (encore lui) vous donnera des explications pour vous aiguiller dans votre choix. La possibilité de brancher le disque aussi bien en USB 3.0 qu'en e-SATA permet de répondre à toutes les attentes. Étonnamment, chez moi, l'e-SATA s'avère plus performant que l'USB 3.0... Côté design et encombrement : c'est loin d'être moche et l'installation s'avère plutôt compacte (malgré l'alimentation sur le côté droit). Le ventilateur quant à lui… En fait, je ne l'ai jamais vraiment entendu ! Il est très discret (et apparemment efficace), ce n'est pas lui qui vous dérangera ! Dernier détail mais qui a son importance : le boîtier est équipé d'une veille automatique qui s'enclenche à l'extinction de l'ordinateur. Cette option vraiment très pratique permet d'oublier complètement le boîtier tout en réduisant l'usure de votre matériel (et votre facture électrique).

Davvero un ottimo case, costruzione solida e funzionale. Consente il Raid 5. La ventola entra in funzione con un pò di rumore solo dopo un uso intenso e prolungato, ma il rumore è davvero minimo ed utile per mantenere sotto controllo la temperatura del case. Vedremo la durata nel tempo....

Deuxième appareil que je commande (le premier a été acheté il y 6 mois) pour l'entreposer chez une personne de confiance et qui me servira de sauvegarde du premier en cas de vol, incendie etc. Reçu en 48H, alors que celui que j'avais commandé à cette adresse avait mis une quinzaine de jours pour arriver : http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B003Q7145Y/ref=pe_115961_33356401_pe_ace_dt1 J'ai 4 disques seagate de 3To à l'intérieur de chaque boitier. Je suis en Raid 5, donc des 12 To initiaux, il ne me reste "plus" que 8 To d'espace utile. Je fais beaucoup de vidéos & photos (professionnel), j'en avais marre d'avoir des disques durs de tous les côtés, c'est la solution de stockage la moins onéreuse que j'ai pu trouver. N'ayant pas eu de pannes disques durs, je ne peux pas témoigner de la fiabilité de la récupération de données grâce au Raid 5. Lors de la mise en route, bien connecter le cable USB à l'ordinateur, mettre sous tension l'appareil en maintenant appuyer le bouton "mode". Choisir son type de Raid, valider grâce au bouton caché à l'arrière, initialiser le bouzin comme expliqué dans la notice, c'est prêt.
