The I'm Not Scared Book

I love the style of Todd Parr books. So simple in design and writing, and easy for even the youngest of kids to understand and enjoy. 'The Feelings Book' and the 'I Love You Book' are both fantastic and my toddler has been asking to read those almost every day since she was 18 months old. I was hoping 'The I'm Not Scared Book' would be equally well received as my daughter is going through a phase of being fearful of a few things, such as sleeping alone, monsters etc, but unfortunately, I haven't read this to her yet and I don't intend to for a while. The idea of the book is great as it shows common things that many kids may be afraid of (eg. "Sometimes I'm scared of the dark") and then counters it with a fun and simple alternative ("I'm not scared when I have a night light.") However, half of the book contains fears that haven't even occurred to my daughter and, if I read this book to her, will plant the idea that certain things may be scary that she hasn't been afraid of before. I could, of course, only read her select pages but she's too eagle-eyed for that and I couldn't get away with it! So for now, the book stays unread. It's probably more suitable for kids older than 2.

The book is great and would’ve been 5 stars, but whoever packaged it hadn’t been very careful and stuck the cardboard envelope to the book and damaged it. :(

I would recommend Todd Parr books to any parent, guardian or teacher for children with issues. I have bought a number of these books for my nephew.
