How long (estimate) does it keep things cold for?

I put an ice pack or cold pack in my bag to keep my items cold for several hours. It will also depend on the temperature of the room or auto if traveling. To be on safe side put a small cold or ice pack in the bag to keep your food cold.

what is the actual dimensions when opened up? the width appears much bigger than the stated 2.5" ?

This lunch bag is quite large. The width is closer to 5.5", length about 9" and height (inside) about 9". I can fit a lot in it.
