Great entry level film camera
This quirky half-frame camera brings an exciting twist to 35mm film photography. The EKTAR H35N's half-frame format cleverly doubles your shots per roll, making film photography more economical while creating interesting diptych possibilities. The striped silver finish gives it a sleek, retro-modern aesthetic that draws attention without being flashy. The focus-free lens delivers surprisingly sharp images for such a compact camera. While it may not match the precision of high-end SLRs, it consistently produces photos with pleasant contrast and minimal vignetting. The built-in star filter adds a creative option for light sources, though it's subtle enough not to overwhelm your shots. Operation is wonderfully straightforward - perfect for both film photography beginners and experienced shooters wanting a fun point-and-shoot. The bulb function is a welcome addition for low-light experimentation, though you'll need a steady hand or surface since there's no tripod mount. The improved coating on the lens does help reduce flare, though you'll still get some character in backlit situations. The build quality feels solid despite the lightweight plastic construction. One minor drawback is the slightly stiff film advance wheel, though it smooths out with use. The battery door could be more robust, but overall, the camera feels like it can handle daily carry. For anyone interested in film photography, whether as a primary camera or a creative tool, this half-frame offering from Kodak provides excellent value and unique creative possibilities.

Great buy , it’s plastic tho so it’ll eventually break
Beat the living crap out of this camera on a trip around the world and 12 assignments as a Wildland firefighter eventually the flash stopped working but it made it that far. This camera went to 20 states and 11 countries with me before I retired it. go take some pictures with yours.

Great little camera
A surprisingly great little camera! I plan to use it professional for funky shots in between my higher res ones, but also as a great way to grab quick vibey candid things at wedding cocktail hours and dance floors. It's also going to be my go-to for family trips and things, it's so simple and quick to use. Something I didn't realize until I got my first roll back: Since each exposure is split in half, you actually need to hold the camera vertically to take a horizontal photo, and vise versa. The view finder is a square so that makes it less obvious, so I'm glad I realized that before taking it to work! The images out of this are definitely not the sharpest, but beautiful anyway. I love the character that the photos have, and when there is a lot of sun in the lens it naturally does some fun light strips and rainbows things which I love. I haven't tried the star filter setting yet but I'm sure that's fun. The flash on it is surprisingly powerful which will make it a great camera for dance floor candids, similar to using a holga but for WAYYYYYY cheaper per roll.

Cool little camera to add to your collection
Note: my pictures were taken with Fujifilm Fujicolor 200 and developed and scanned by The Darkroom. I decided to buy the Ektar H35N when I was thinking of getting into film photography. I have a Nikon DSLR and enjoy photography in general, but was seeking to get an older vintage look for my photobooks. I thought about getting an older SLR but didn't want to deal with adding another big camera with different lenses and equipment . That's why the H35N appealed to me; it's small and you can easily just throw it in your camera bag. What's neat is that you also get double the shots that you'd normally get from a 35mm camera since it's a half frame camera. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. The resolution isn't anything to be impressed by, but I'd use this camera to take pictures of more day-to-day things instead of the really important pictures I want to take. I think using this camera on a road trip or to take street pictures of places you visit would be a good way to use it. The indoor pictures aren't too bad, but you need the flash for indoor pictures. I enjoyed taking candid pictures with this camera; it made me feel like we were living in the moment. I'd recommend this camera for anyone who's in a similar situation to mine or to someone who's thinking of getting a disposable camera and wants to use it more than once. So why not five stars? Well, I saw that there's a cheaper version of this camera, the Ektar H35, and I think that I'd opt for that camera if I could go back and make my purchase. This newer model has a bulb mode, star filter, and a slightly redesigned look and slightly better resolution, but the price is creeping towards justifying a purchase of an older SLR camera. The older model basically does the same thing, and I didn't really feel the need to use the new star filter and bulb mode.

Great quality, easy to use, great price
This is the best point and shoot film camera I’ve used. I used this camera with fujifilm color 200 and they turned out amazing. Because it’s half frame, you get double the exposures and they look great side by side. Overexposure on one frame didn’t affect my other photo next to it. I think for the price it is well worth it. The star lens was cool to use, but I don’t use it very often as I don’t want that affect. Super simple to load the film, and progress the film. I haven’t used the flash yet, but it just requires 1 triple a battery and a couple seconds to charge the flash. The camera will count your exposures so you know how many you have left. Love this camera

Good for travel or for people new to film photography
I bought an Ektar H35N for a light, cheap point & shoot travel camera. The idea purposes of this camera are: documenting daily life, travel, learning photography, and playing with different film types. (I’ve shot 35mm film professionally and as a hobby since the 1980s so I’ve used SLRs and other types of film cameras.) Pluses about the H35N: The camera’s half-frame format is just fine for casual photography, for sharing photos online, and can make decent 4x6 prints. You get twice the number of shots per roll (72 photos on a roll of 36, for example) so good value there. The camera is lightweight, yet the shutter button, film housing, and rewind crank feel solid, and it looks like a camera, unlike other options in this segment which resemble toys or science fair experiments. The glass lens element helps to keep the image sharp-ish across the entire frame, unlike all-plastic lenses which tend to have softer focus away from the center of an image. It accepts 30.5mm filters so you can add a ND filter for using 800 ASA film in daylight or a yellow filter for B&W film. The flash is good indoors and as a fill-in for shooting pictures in dim light. The bulb setting and tripod mount let you take long-exposure night shots or use low-speed film. The controls are very simple and viewfinder works OK. Minuses: The shutter speed is a little slow, so you have to be careful to hold it steady. This camera is best paired with 200 ASA film for travel photography. If you’re learning film, then this camera will help/force you to attend to the basics: how different film types affect your photos, paying attention to light, and thinking more about composition over fiddling with camera settings. Load it up with some cheap 200 ASA film and go make some pictures!

I wanted to like it
I was so hyped to try this camera. I have been looking at this camera for a long time and finally decided to go for it before a trip. Worked great on my trip, loved how the film came out. Two weeks later I go to use the camera and it is completely unresponsive. Changed the battery, still nothing. No damage whatsoever was done to this camera, no drops or anything and it is just completely not functioning now 3 rolls of film in. Not worth it.

Worth the money
Cute and fun portable camera. Takes good quality photos for the price. Great for travel. Battery for flash lasts a long time. Works best with Kodak 200 gold. Nighttime use is not the best so may not be the most versatile for every lighting.
