I usually get irritated by flippant comments, but I gotta give this one to Billboard - that's bang-on advice there.

How long does it take to set up?

If you have help, about 5 minutes. If it's just you, and there is no wind, about 10-15 minutes. Take time to scout out the area. Solid anchor points for the guy lines are critical. Once it's set up properly it will withstand a pretty good wind.

Can this be used as a free standing shelter? i will use on my car for camping but want also to use at beach without the car.

Yes, it can. Place the poles so that when staked out, the tent resembles an inverted "V". Two people would be very beneficial to set up, but can be completed by one. Lots of options in how to set up. RW
