Not powdered. Very tiny BB’s. Will require purification for some uses, crystalizes nicely with only some minor oily coating on top of the water afterwards. Works great right out of the bag to get rid of stumps.

This product works just like it did when my dad showed me how to dissolve a tree stump. Drill numerous, 6-inch vertical holes in the stump, wet the surface thoroughly, and sprinkle on the potassium nitrate liberally. Wet again to saturate the powder without washing it off the stump. Now wait. Depending on the type of tree stump, it can take weeks or months to get good results. At my place, the stump could be broken up easily with an axe or heavy hammer.

After a year, there's been no significant breakdown of the stumps. I cut out a cross-section with my chainsaw, and the holes that were filled with this product haven't spread sideways into the wood at all. But they're locust stumps, and locust wood is harder than oak, and famous for its resistance to rot. So maybe on a softer tree (pine, maple, poplar, oak) this might have worked better. What I really want to write about is my screwup. I wasn't as careful as I needed to be in handling this, and apparently got some on me, which I apparently ingested. Google says, "Ingesting potassium nitrate can cause significant gastrointestinal irritation. Common digestive issues include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea." Regretfully, I can attest to the truthfulness of this statement. So wear rubber gloves, and wash carefully after using this product, and you should be okay.
