Best light for trail running
Very sturdy and effective. I needed a headlight for trail running and I was in two minds between the actik and this one. I think this one is much better, as it is waterproof and shockproof, with the added goody of different colours. Both have the same light performance with the CORE battery. This one is slightly more heavy, but the difference is small and it adds peace of mind when in the trails. The main disadvantage is that the CORE battery is not included, but they are sold separately. So although you will pay slightly more than for the Actik (the difference being having to purchase the battery separately), ultimately it is a better product.

Brilliant head torch
Not used it a massive amount but already think it is a great product. Feels like good quality and I have dropped it several times and when not using it is just thrown in a bag and it still works fine. Not heavy so doesn't become uncomfortable after a time. The third brightness not sure why you would need a head torch that bright but if you do it's there I guess. And the little rechargeable battery packs you can get for these are great. I get about 4 hours from one and they are little so can be easily carried round.

Works well
I have been unable to find a suitable hard case to protect it in transit; otherwise it would have been 5 stars. It is light, seems robust and works with AAA NiMH cells. The three white light settings are good for walking at night, and the red light is bright enough for setting up a telescope.

Great head torch !
yes it's expensive, however it's also worth it. It's comfortable to wear, and gives a great light output. I purchased it for use when wild camping and use the Red function most of the time at night and being able to go straight to red and not via a white setting is crucial for not ruining your night vision. I've played with the Blue and Green but don't really use those. I will comment later if those modes bring enhanced use. All in all, a great head torch.

Why flash???
I would rate both the Aria and Actik far higher if it wasn't for one, stupid feature. If the battery is anything but full, the light will flash three times over the course of three seconds to warn of a low battery. This usually occurs as I put the lamp to max brightness for a specific activity, for example, i am reaching for a hand-hold whilst climbing, jumping across a stream, swinging an axe - it's often in a critical situation when I then get several brief, but potentially dangerous moments of darkness. For a company that is reputed for their safety equipment this is dumb as ****. The headlamp has a battery indicator LED, why would I want periods of darkness for any duration? I can see the battery is going either by checking that or by monitoring the overall brightness levels. With colder temperatures and reduced battery performance, this has begun to frustate me so much during this winter that I will ditch the Core system and get something else. Edit: The button is also easily pressed by mistake. I regularly find this lamp on in bags/pockets. It doesn't fit the Petzln case either which does help protect other headlamps against that. The button isn't easy to find when you're mounting the lamp so I often find myself putting it on upside down. The back door doesn't seal very well, perhaps better with AAAs than the core battery, but I don't use those. There is often a gap and if you want it to seal you'll have to double check you've closed it properly. Then you'll have trouble swivelling the light into position. This aspect appears very poorly designed. I really wanted to like the Aria 2 but I really don't. It's become a pain in the backside, not a piece of equipment that I'd want to trust with my life and I'm looking for an alternative. It's unnecessarily large and bulky on the head.

Not bad for the money.
Great light for the money - easy to adjust headband, plenty of light, variable brilliance, red, green and blue options and easily adjustable for direction. At maximum power it does strip through the batteries but with only 3 AAA's that not surprising. The only real gripe is fitting new batteries isn't an easy task and getting the battery door closed again with any hope of it being waterproof is a task in itself. I would however buy it again as it's not bad at the current price point.
