Bartoline Creosoak Oil-Based Timber Treatment for Garden Sheds, Fences & Trellis 4 l – Wood Protection & Weatherproofing

A really nice easy product to paint onto wood. Have used on a shed, older fence panels and new pressure treated wood. All have turned out really good A great shade and not orange or dark like a lot of other fence paints. Doesn't look like it will flake off in time. This being more of an oil stain takes a few days to be absorbed but looks great once it has. Would recommend and will use again in the future. 1 litre covered an 8x8 shed, with a little left over.

Good colour: Brings out the natural grain of the wood. It looks similar to wet timber in colour which I like because should be able to get away without staining it for a while due to fading not being obvious. Coverage: Bought 2 4 litre tubs and covered around 68m2 (1 coat) of fence and have a around a litre left. Went on better and had better coverage with a three inch fence brush than a 4inch one for some reason got around half a board with the 4 inch and 3/4 of a board with the 3 inch despite the 4 inch soaking up a lot more stain. I put some on in very light showers with no issue however on another day I painted a section and heavier showers and it washed away some of the colour leading to a re-coat. I'd stick to instructions and look for a dry spell to put it on e.g. no rain 24 hours before or after painting. Running: It runs a lot so be careful painting fences along the boundary. Although not the end of the world due to it looking quite similar to wet timber. Smell & health concerns: I'm not sure I would have bought it had I read the warnings of cancer especially as I have a very curious 3 year old. It also has a strong smell so if I use it again a mask might be worth getting. It also seems to have killed grass where it ran off the paint boards so potentially lethal stuff. If I can find something with a similar colouring I may opt for it instead but doubt I'll get the coverage or lifespan out of alternatives.

This is great stuff for sheds and fences. It's easy to apply and goes a long way. I have two sheds, and one 4L container will do both sheds with some left over. It's pretty cost effective to when you consider how much the big brands charge for fence/shed treatments. I use the lighter colour treatment, and it leaves the sheds a nice golden colour. It fades during the year but has no impact on the protection it provides. It is a bit smelly when you apply it, but that fades very quickly after a day or two. Would recommend.

In the absence of creosote, the next best thing for straightforward protection of outdoor wood -a fence and bin store. Takes an age to dry fully and the smell lingers a long time but, if not too close to house or neighbours, it,s not a problem Gives a nice finish to raw wood and affordable option
