Bike Chain Tensioner, Single Speed Chain Tensioner

Works for converting mtb to a single speed!

Can't say anything was wrong with it, but I decided I preferred a chain tensioner without teeth: that is, a smooth roller. I returned this item.

This fit on my single speed ebike right to the bolt and added the needed tension! I needed to pull off the end cap of this thing to adjust the spring load angle, which took a few tries, but ended up doing well. It looks good, and feels durable enough.

I bought this to convert an old mountain bike to a single speed to use on my kickr zwift one trainer. That trainer is set up with a single rear cog that lines up with roughly the middle front ring. Unfortunately with this tensioner set to the most extended position it was still off the chain line by about 3 mm. I may just put a spacer and a longer bolt to fix the gear into a position further extended but I don't know if that will put excessive tork on the tensioner arm. Other alternative is to remove the zwift cog and install another cog with a bunch of spacers to bring in line with the outer ring but that's another extra expense and you lose some of the benefit of the zwift cog.

Really easy to install for a single speed. Fixed the tensioning problem I had on my multi to single speed conversion. The material is a little cheap though. After riding only 3 times, the shield that keeps the chain in place somehow broke. It's not that important since the tensioner keeps the chain in place but, still a bummer.

Got this for a motorized bike build. This allowed me to use a standard Shimano derailleur hanger with this to provide pedal chain tension for a single speed chain. It had this little metal loop meant to retain the chain, but it gets stuck on standard master links trying to pass through it, so remove that and you are good.
