Great product...once I eventually got it.
Our male dog suffered a major back injury and we needed a sling/harness to help him walk and go to the bathroom. I researched A LOT of slings online and on Amazon...and while some seemed fine and basic, they didn't seem to offer much help in both supporting his back legs AND helping me control his pace/direction to avoid further injury. I finally found the Gingerlead support harness, which has both a sling to support his back end as well as leash attachment to give more control. I placed the order, which had two day shipping, and then got a helpful message from the makers of the product offering tips about the harness. But the order didn't arrive after two days...nor three...nor four or five. And all the tracking said was "delayed in transit"...and that I could cancel the order if I didn't receive it by a certain day. The trouble is I needed it ASAP, and had depended on it arriving on time. I contacted the seller, but they told me that when their product is shipped via Amazon (rather than from their own website), they apologized but said they had no information about the shipment nor had any control. When the time came to cancel the order, I did -- and then decided to try ordering it again (I was offered one day shipping this time). Fortunately, the re-ordered harness finally arrived and it's working out great. It's pretty easy to adjust, not that hard to put on my dog, and it's helped us immensely. So in terms of the actual product, it's great and I highly recommend. BUT over the past 6 months or so, Amazon's been dropping the ball a lot in terms of shipping times -- I've placed several orders that have been delayed at least two or three days past the advertised delivery date, and two (including this time) that never arrived at all. When you need a product like this fast to care for an ailing animal, this just isn't acceptable. Amazon's an amazing marketplace that allows you to buy tons of things that you can't find in you local stores. But if you can't deliver it in the specified timeframe, don't say that you can and then leave your customers hanging. UPDATE: Can't recommend this product enough. We've been using it for almost three week and it's absolutely perfect for our injured dog. There are times when our male dog urinates onto the pad because the sling doesn't stay in perfect alignment all the time (it's no fault of the product; it's just that it can slip as he moves around to find the perfect "pee" spot), the harness washes and dries (in the dryer on low/medium) like a dream. Thank you Gingerlead -- you have saved our life, made our dog secure, and helped us in a difficult time.

Works great! Well made. Read and follow the sizing instructions!
The sizing instructions are spot on and very helpful - read them carefully! I am short (5’4”) and have a 62 lb shepherd mix who just turned 15 and has significant mobility issues with back legs and hips (arthritis), and I live in a 3-story townhouse. So stairs are inevitable for her just to go potty. Based on my height and her measurements (after consulting the sizing instructions/how to measure), I selected the tall male version and it is perfect! Absolutely zero issues from a fit or function aspect. She needed the 5” width and I needed the shorter straps so the handle is at the proper level for my comfort and for maximum leverage - works amazingly well! I really love the way the handle loops around to form some padding where you grip the straps - I have small, sensitive hands and this allows me to bear her hind end weight more comfortably. And no issues with it being the “male” version and she’s a female - even with the slight V shape, the sling works perfectly for her. There have been many times where she briefly loses her balance when we’re going up the stairs and this sling has been a lifesaver - I am able to support her weight and get her back on track (and I have a lot of balance issues, lots of foot/ankle surgeries so I don’t say that lightly). I think the sling helps her feel more secure so she doesn’t panic when she loses her footing - I just stay there, supporting her with the sling and let her regain herself and on we go to the next step. We’ve been using it for several months now. It has also been helpful to use when I had to take her to the vet - getting her into my SUV lately had been quite difficult before this sling and now it’s less stressful for her. So thankful for this wonderful product for my dear sweet girl!!

Works amazingly well for our senior male with arthritis/hip dysplasia
I had some concerns about the $65 price tag on this padded sling but thought we could always return it if it didn't meet our needs. This is a really great product and suits our senior (14 years old) dog who is losing mobility in his rear legs/hips due to arthritis and hip dysplasia. We got the medium/large male/female sling thinking that if we ever need to use it on our other two female dogs (ranging in weight from 45-55), we would be able to. This sling has soft corduroy on the inside and a canvas-like material on the outside. It's very well padded, which is great. One of our favorite things about this sling, is that it does NOT slip...either up or down...our dog's chest/belly area. We spent $30 on very thin, flimsy sling here on Amazon that slipped and slid up and down his underside, bunching up (in all the wrong places!). That became not only a nuisance, but dangerous because he would tip forward (his front legs are relatively strong, but since he carries most of the burden there, they get a bit tired) and would come close to falling. This sling stays put! It is very well made and sturdy. The handles are adjustable and it comes with "stay put" velcro straps (optional to use). It also comes with a shorter piece that is adjustable in order to attach it to both the sling straps and a collar or the sling straps and a chest harness ~ neither of which come with the sling and that is well stated in the description. This washes and dries very well and the corduroy actually be comes softer, and the overall wearability seems to become even more comfy and easier to use. Think a well worn leash. The only reason I didn't give this a 5 start review was because of the $65 price tag. I know...I raved about the product. However, I believe the cost could be more affordable...perhaps around the $45-$50 price range. I sincerely would not hesitate to recommend this product for it's functionality.

The harness has given us more time with our dog
I highly recommend this product if your dog is having trouble standing on its own! It’s been a year since they told us to put our 12 1/2 year old large dog down and with this product she’s still able to get around. It has giving her relief when she needs it most, squatting to use the bathroom. Amazing product.

Well made product but not for my dog.
This is my second try. First order, I thought it was the size. The company suggested a different size. I ordered that and yes, it was a better fit but again, just not for my dog. She is 14.5 years old with severe hip and spine problems. She bumbles, stumbles and tumbles frequently. But she loves her walks and always manages to show up wanting to walk with the other dogs, even if it’s just a short distance. She also has some cognitive issues. The sling confuses her. It causes her to turn sideways as it confuses her and which way she is being led. We have repeatedly tried it on her using suggestions from the company and others. It becomes more of an effort than an advantage. Since we used it multiple times and it was a fail, I felt uncomfortable returning. The sling is very well made and sounds like it has been a great success for other but just confuses my old girl. Sadly, it was a waste of money for us. Had high hopes.

This harness is a lifesaver!
This harness has been a lifesaver for us. Literally. Our dog is 14 years old and has absolutely no use of her back legs. Other than that her health is really quite good, so for us euthanization was not an option and we needed to find a way to get her around. This harness is very easy to put on her and much more secure than the towel sling we fashioned after we realized she was losing the use of her back legs. We live on the second floor so we need to get her up and down stairs, and this harness fits securely and enables us to get her up and down safely. She became accustomed to it quickly and she happily walks along using her front legs while we hold her back end up with the handles. She isn't exactly light (used to be 53 pounds, now she's down to 45 since she's lost some muscle mass), so it is definitely an effort for us since we're basically supporting the bulk of her weight with one hand as walk along, and we have to lift her back end up high enough so her back paws don't scrape the ground. The padded handle really helps us with this task. We walk as far as we can handle (she wants to go further, of course!) and she does her business with no problem (no issues with soiling the harness since the one we have is designed for female dogs). Having said that, the harness is washable and we've washed it at least twice or three times in the several months we've had it, and it's held up very well. Our dog isn't really able to use the very expensive wheelchair we bought for her unless two people are able to accompany her (she just isn't strong enough these days to pull it around and tends to roll back, which is very dangerous),so this harness is the best solution for all of us and much cheaper. I'm sure if your dog still has some use of his/her back legs it will be even easier for you to use since you won't be supporting you dog's entire weight like we have to. We're very grateful for this product and highly recommend it.

So glad I found this!!!
I have a senior, 16-year old dog without use of his back legs. For the last 2 years, we have been using a Help Em Up Harness, which has been a lifesaver for us. However, the back straps of that harness recently cut into a small fatty tumor on one of his back legs (not the fault of the harness, just bad positioning of the tumor location right near the crease of the back leg where the straps go), which meant we could no longer use the back of that harness. If you have ever had a dog with pretty much no use of their back legs (or none at all), you know you really need something that will stay in the right spot (to avoid their back end just slipping out of the sling). I tried using other slings I had, which did help, but the positioning slipped and because there was no way to attach them to his front harness, it made moving him around (especially up or down stairs) extremely difficult. After doing a ton of research, I finally came across this harness, and I am so glad I did!!! What I love: *It attaches to the front of my dog's Help Em Up harness easily, allowing the 2 pieces to work together, stay together, and makes moving him and stairs SO much easier. He can go downstairs with me just supporting the Gingerlead on his back end, since the 2 harnesses can easily attach. I personally would not use this with just a collar as shown, as I feel there would be some risk of choking the dog, unless your dog really just needs very light support in the back and is fully holding themselves up quite strongly in the front, and if you are only using this to assist while walking. I would not use a regular collar to lift the dog with this, do stairs, etc., or if your dog has pretty severe mobility issues in the hind end. I would recommend using a front harness with it that has a clip on the back and does not pull on the dog's neck at all (I still love the Help Em Up for that reason...so the front part still works with this!). The fact that these attach and don't slip around means easier car transport if needed as well. No idea how I would even fathom getting my dog in the car without Gingerlead and his front harness. Just such a great feature! *No straps under the back legs. This was something I needed and just could not find anywhere. I needed something that wrapped around my dog like a sling, so I could slide it under him to attach it, but did not need to go around his back legs, or cause any irritation from wearing it around that area 24/7. This allowed me to still support his back end in comfort, without disturbing his injury. Every other harness I looked at either had straps or you had to somehow get their legs through it, which is not an option for all dogs, especially those with severe mobility issues. Gingerlead recognized this need! It combines the ease-of-use of a sling with the features of a harness. *The back/outside of the harness is a bit slippery, which is exactly what I wanted. I need to be able to easily slide this under my dog while he is laying down to position it and lift him. I can't do that with a fabric backing or back that does not slide easily. Even over his blankets and pee pads, I can get this under him (handles are a bit bulky when doing this, but it still works). *The harness is machine washable! I also love that you can dry it in the dryer, but I typically just lay it flat or put it outside and it dries in no time! Most slings you cannot even machine dry at all, so this is a plus! *Comfortable, adjustable straps. It's very well-padded in the handle area. A bit bulky when trying to slide under the dog, but worth it for when you have to move the dog or transport up or down stairs (your hands will thank you). It feels secure and comfy. Adjustable for however you intend to use it and your height/dog's height. *Sizing is just right. Please watch the sizing videos! I felt like the size I was ordering was too small, but I followed the measurements they talked about in the video from the front of the hip to the bottom of the rib cage, which suprisingly was smaller than I thought it would be. When I got the harness, it fit perfectly, just in the right spot, which also helps reduce pressure on the chest and keeps it in place while in use. They put a lot of time into the videos to help you get the right fit, so just trust the info they give you. Overall, I could not be happier with this. I was honestly panicking when I realized I could no longer use the back end of my dog's Help Em Up and nothing I was finding online (I looked everywhere) seemed like it would work. I had no idea how I was going to get my dog up/down stairs, move him around during the day, etc. I saw this and prayed that it would work the way it showed it to work, and it delivered. Thank you, Gingerlead!!!!

The best buy ever!
This is a game changer! My standard Dachshund (20lbs) was struck down with IVDD. Untill finding this product I was using a leash and a towel to help steady him during toileting. Staying crunched over and trying to support his rear endy. This took a quick toll on my own back. Now with this Gingerlead, it works exactly like the picture. It is adjustable for length and girth. Reliable, steady support for him while I am ale to stand up straight. I am 70 years old and bending over in a crouched position for a length of time is not a good thing. TOTALLY RECOMMEND this sling support type harness

Excellent Product, Works exactly as described
the Harness is excellent. It provides much needed support for dogs with hind-leg issues. It is also quite easy to use, allowing someone to lift or raise the dogs legs and provide support with ease. Highly Recommended!!

Perfect for IVDD rehabilitation
We used a ginger lead in combination with a good harness to help our dachshund with spinal injury learn to walk again. The ginger lead helps to support the hind legs when needed without hindering the dog's movement. The lead is well made, is comfortable for the dog and has adjustable length straps for tall or short humans!
