Basics of Oud: Includes Online Audio (Me; Bay)

This is a great book and DVD for someone wanting to learn the oud. Some things cannot be easily put words which makes the included DVD particularly useful, and the book provides lots encouragment to continue. To be honest, no book can ever be a substitute for a real teacher, but Oud teachers aren't easy to find outside of the Middle East so this combination of a book and DVD is a good place to begin.

I found this a great book to work with and the instructional videos were excellent. The book has a generous amount and range of repertoire for the Arabic oud. It would have been useful if these were accompanied with MP3s played by the author to guide practice. Without them it's hard to know are you getting the right feel of the piece and listening to the pieces on YouTube you aren't sure how different the interpretation is to the books. That said it is the best book on the Oud I have found the others are much slimmer and don't have the large repertoire section that Marina's book does.

Excellent bouquin avec un dvd très instructif - plus adapté à des ouds (turc) avec un accordage différent des ouds du proche orient. Mais ça reste un excellent outil d'aide pour apprendre à jouer avec cet excellent instrument

This book and DVD which is great value for the price, is more than one would expect from a 'Basics book' . It is very clearly presented logical, easy to follow, and an essential starting point for any beginner. Every sequence is clear and there are no ambiguities. The DVD gives us a taste of some traditional music too. I really recommend it to anyone.

It really helps me learn properly. It has theroy and risha tips. Just an all round good learning tool
