Hills 115553 Portadry Rotary Dryer 4 Arm - 45 meter

Very sturdy.

I have had a Hills Rotary clothes line for many years and have had good service from it. However on this occasion when the line was half full of washing the main steel pole bent in wind and all my washing ended up on the floor. Amazon were very very good in replacing the line and to date I have had no problem with the new line but I do keep an eye on how much I put out on the line and whether there is likely to be strong winds. If Hills want to make any improvements to the line then they should make the main pole far more robust. The best feature about the Hills Rotary clothes line is the fact that it does not rust and the line is reasonably easy to replace.

My last Hill's rotary dryer lasted us almost 30 years. If we had not moved house, we would still be using it. It is simply a very well engineered and high quality product.

I purchased this Hills Rotary Drier in May 2012 to replace one I'd had for 16 years which had served me well. It was delivered quickly and well packaged. Although it was much lighter in weight than my prevoius drier but nevertheless looked similar. When hanging washing, I always spread it to balance the weight as much as possible - as advised in the instructions. However, having hung a set of bedlinen and leaving it to dry I returned to find the drier lying down with the pole bent! Unperturbed, and realising the wind had been stronger than usual, I sawed of the bottom of the pole - effectively leaving it aprox 8" shorter. The next time I hung out washing, the same thing occured. I would not recomend this particular model.

I have been using a Hills drier similar to this one for 20 years and the 22mm pole and existing concreted in spiggot meant that its replacement had to be another Hills. The Amazon description alludes to an easy hoist system and this is a misrepresentation. There is no hoist system save that of raising the 4 arms by sliding the handle up the pole. Perhaps being new it was found to be impossible for a women to raise the line and twist the handle to lock the raised line into position. It actually took a man pushing with all his might to achieve the task whilst another person held down the pole. There is a line tensioner indicated on the box instructions but this has nor been investigated. If you are a women this item is not for you as you will not have the strength to deploy the lines. Perhaps it will "ride up with wear". The important point is that the easy hoist system is a lie.

Great product - not the cheapest - but sturdy and made to last, even in the strongest of winds and has loads hanging room.

The dryer arrived next day to my surprise. Easy to erect and quite strong, time will tell is it can last 12 years like its predecessor. I had to buy a separate ground spike - it would help if this was suggested with the product details.

This is our second rotary washing line manufactured by Hills. We have had many years use with the firstone and decided to go for a second new one from Hills. It is well constructed and easy to install.
