Better than expected
I used this knife at work on a few hours with prep. It is flawless and not expensive. I own a variety of other name brand knives but Damascus steel ones are my favorite. The style of this is perfect, the handle is very comfortable and cuts everything with ease. It came very sharp which is good, packaging was nice the box stays shut so you can travel with this knife easily. Overall I highly recommend whether youโre a chef or a home cook or just a person who likes nice knives. I will definitely buy more from this brand.

Okay
Maybe I don't fully get this knife, but not my favorite. The knife is almost the size of a small machete. I honestly mean that - largest knife I've ever seen. The blade quality is why I knocked it a star. Just seems cheap. I couldn't get a great edge on it. Overall, it may have a specific purpose in ethnic cooking, but in my kitchen, it would be better off hanging on the wall as a piece of art.

Sharp!
I cook a lot and appreciate good equipment. Good knives are very important, and this one is a dandy! The whole thing is a beautiful work of art, from the rosewood handle to the subtly etched woodgrain pattern on the lower portion of the blade. The upper portion is pebbled, which aids in preventing food from clinging to the blade as you slice. The packaging is first class, a handsome black box with a magnetic closure and a padded, velvety lining. This is an outstanding knife to use. With my first slice into an onion, I knew this was a high quality product. I have excellent, pricy German knives by a famous maker and this is much better looking, and heavier to boot. It is immediately apparent that a good deal of thought went into every aspect of this knife, from the ergonomics of the handle to the composition of the steel, so it's not just a pretty face, but rather a hardworking tool. Julia Child, in one of her groundbreaking early videos, stated that you were much more likely to cut yourself with a dull knife than a sharp one, which is absolutely true. Furthermore, she explained that a good, heavy knife did a lot of the work for you, with the assistance or gravity. That is what I noticed immediately when I started in on the onions. Between the outstanding keenness of the blade and the weight of it (a whopping 241.9g!!), cutting effort was greatly reduced. Good knives are not inexpensive, but they will last you a lifetime, which is the type of warranty that comes with this one. A well-known, premium brand knife of this type is considerably more expensive, so I consider this an excellent value and a joy to use.

Knife that looks as good as it feels in your hand
This knife looks and feels gorgeous in your hand. I'm not a professional chef, by any means, but I do have a growing appreciation for the efficacy of a really good kitchen knife, when cooking. After spending far too much time using blades that have been dull for twenty years, or knife sets that cost less than a decent steak, I'm trying to actually invest in my cooking tools. This nakiri knife is a step in that direction. The product images show the square nakiri knife being used to slice through meat, which I think might give some people the wrong impression. I tried to cut a roast with this knife, and it was a struggle--I do not recommend, lol. But the roast-cutting fiasco did send me into research mode, which is when I realized I was using the right tool for the wrong job. Nakiri knives are designed and meant to help you speed through chopping vegetables. When I starting using my knife for this, it worked like a dream. The blade has a great balance in your hand, and I like that it came in a fitted storage box. It's a good storage solution until I find something better for my growing knife collection. The edge on this blade felt a little dull right of the box, but that's nothing that a good sharpener can't take care of. The shape is larger and squarer than I'm used to, but that's what makes it a nakiri knife. Just don't be fooled by the product photos! This is not a one size fits all knife--but it is a fantastic nakiri knife at a great introductory price point that can last you for years to come.

Looks nice and sharp too, but let's be real...
This is NOT a real Damascus knife. It is incredibly sharp and is great for slicing/chopping but that's where the quality ends for the most part. I'm not a chef by any means but I feel like this does a great job at cutting/chopping but maybe that means I've never owned a really sharp knife before. It is nice and heavy but not too heavy and it feels "balanced" I guess....again, not a chef. I am disappointed in the handle construction. The tang seems to be just inserted into the blue...plastic? I would think if you are paying this much for a knife the blade and tang should go all the way through. I also noticed there are no bolts keeping the handle together so the blade is either glued into the handle or heat molded maybe? Either way, that seems a tad cheap for a blade of this cost and probably means it wont last. I shined my iPhone light through the blue plastic part to see if I could tell how the blade is connected. I don't know, that tang looks a tad thin. This is also reflected in the blade's alignment with the handle. You can even see a gap between the blade and tang where it connects. I'm still going to use this as my daily chopper and slicer but I am not anticipating it lasting as long as a more quality knife. That being said, the price of this blade is a little out of touch of it's own quality and with reality.

Beautiful Knife
This knife has a great weight to it and holds a nice, sharp edge. I have no way of determining if it is truly a Damascus steel knife, but it certainly feels high-quality. I didn't know if I would like the blue resin part of the handle, but it looks much better in person. The handle is the perfect length, especially for people with larger hands. I specifically enjoy using this when cutting vegetables or harder root veggies. the top edge has some good thickness to it so you can use your other hand to tap the top If needed without much discomfort. Out of the box, it is pretty sharp. However, I sharpened it with my rolling sharpener and it is razor sharp now. I'm super impressed with how well it sharpens and remains sharp after use. Overall, I do recommend this if you are looking for a high-quality, aesthetic, sharp knife.

Very sharp, comfortable kitchen knife. Not damascus steel
I believe that the manufacturer of this knife has laser etched the Damascus pattern into this blade (it will disappear if you grind on it) but it is made of a decent blade steel and it does hold an edge. I appreciate the hammered portion as it easily slides off cut vegetables which would ordinarily try to stick to the knife. Overall it is a good tool and I've enjoyed using it.

Different vendor but comes from the same manufacturer with the same flaws
Where to start, as soon as the box arrived, I recognized it as being from the same manufacturer as other knives I've reviewed that come from different vendors under different names. Opening the box and reading the enclosed brochure confirmed it. This knife has the same 20-degree bend to the left when using the handle as the reference and viewing from the spine side of the blade. In this case, however, the tang is inserted into the handle so there's a small possibility that it could be corrected. I did attempt to correct it, and, with even the slightest pressure, the resin started to feel and sound like breakage was imminent, so I stopped. The ad itself is contradictory, as is the enclosed brochure, stating in one place it's a Damascus pattern and elsewhere as true Damascus steel. It also states that the pattern is not laser etched and continues through all the layers. Wrong! It is absolutely laser etched and the pattern quickly disappears if you take a grinder to the blade as was challenged by one of the other vendors of the sister line to this knife. The black portion of the blade is sprayed on vs. darkening of the steel itself through treatment with liver of sulfur or oxidation techniques and it's done after the "hammering" so it's clearly not part of the forging process. The only positive thing that I can say about this knife is that it's extremely sharp straight out of the box as are all knives from the manufacturer. If the manufacturer could produce the blades without deflection to the left and the vendors were 100% accurate in their advertising like "laser etched Damascus, look" then this knife would be getting 5-star reviews rather than 1- and 2-star reviews.
