These are thin pieces of slate stone - the edges are neat and straight but slightly sharp - its a broken stone edge and that was expected.Each piece has four thin adhesive feet on the bottom to prevent scratching and help them to sit without rocking or tipping while you are using them.Slate marks easily but being stone, they do clean up well -Using knives on these will leave marks on the stone and dull the knife but small cheese knives should be fine - the surface will just gain some character over time.These do have to be handled carefully, slate is brittle - it's just part of the material, not a fault or problem.They probably should have given that a lot more thought when designing the shipping - the first set arrived with 5 out of 6 broken and 4 of them were shattered in many pieces. Amazon sent a replacement set and it was much better packed - all six were fine the second time.Nice looking serving piece - requires more care than a wooden board but is still a nice option.

Upon opening the boxes, several of the boards had corners broken off or were broken in half. The boards which were not broken look nice but I would not purchase these again unless they packaged better for shipping.

The media could not be loaded.  These are nice, but in my sample 3 of 6 arrived broken. Not enough care and packaging was provided for these to make it from China, to the US, and then to Colorado.The three that made it are very nice and will make great charcuterie boards, but the fact that 50 percent broke in transit tells me they saved a little on packaging at the cost of quality.I needed to be honest on how they arrived.The three will be well used.
