Good weight value
If you are considering buying this, you likely know what you're getting. It's 2x the price of a plastic can and 1/3 the weight. It is crushable, but the varmints (big and small) won't get your food. It can fit easier in your pack, because it is soft sided. It won't serve as a handy camp seat. I live in the west, but not in central california, so the limitations (current anyway, 4/2017) in Yosemite and Kings/Sequoia don't apply. It's a stiff fabric. The seams are thick and well sewn. The Velcro closure has a tiny bit of trouble full sealing all the way over the very think seam at the edges. I doubt this affects performance in the slightest, it isn't meant to be water tight at the opening, and velcro isn't water tight anyway. The bag bottom has a more rectangular shape than cylindrical. The gussets are pretty thick. It is about 4 to 6 inches at the thickest point on the bottom, and it will stand on it's own, empty, unsupported, but only if carefully balanced. I think it'll last a lifetime of occasional use, and not having to wait in a ranger line to check out a can is pretty awesome.

but in the end was a better option. Pros
Got this for my Appalachian Trail thru-hike - cannot say I'm all that impressed. I eventually mailed it home and resorted to using a drybag hung in a tree - takes a little extra time to do, but in the end was a better option. Pros: -It seems to work (no mice or bear problems) -Easy to use Cons: -Not waterproof, which for the money spent is a big disappointment. Slow to dry, and if you're on the go a lot this can be an issue as mold will build up. A wax coating or material improvement should be considered for new models -White color gets dirty quickly -Heavy -Not a lot of storage space; hard to pack

Like, with lots of room.
Light, and a bit stiff. I was able to cram 4 days of food into the bag. I would like the "critter" material on the outside, instead of inside. Chippys will naw at the white until they hit the barrier on the inside. Needs to be the other way around?

Great product
Great quality and very durable. The Velcro lining for the critter proof liner was legit. Even challenging for me to pull apart! Took this backpacking and it was awesome as it took up MUCH less space than a comparable volume capacity hard plastic container. Only negative is your stuff can still get squashed (I believe there is some liner you can get if this is a problem though.. I do not have this). Rope on it would not be long enough to hang from a tree but could probably tie around a smaller trunk or low branch. Overall very pleased with this. Glad I went with this vs just the bear reaistant one. Loved the critter proof liner part.

Great protection at a price
Great protection but a little heavier than previous versions. With aluminum liner can't use Velcro seal. But much better than any hard-sided canister! I repackage all my food into zip-locks. Doing that, I can get 5 days of food - including bulky sandwiches for lunch - into this. With a few changes, I probably could get 6 days in.

FYI--Some parks require HARD-SIDED canisters
First of all, don't fool yourself by believing that hanging your food will keep it away from hungry bears. Bears have been outsmarting people for . . . well . . . as long as there have been bears and people. If you camp in a place where people commonly camp then the bears are already smart enough to get your hanging food! My buddy personally watched a mama bear lift her baby up, grab the rope and chew through it. Do a Google search if you don't believe it (I know, I know--just trust me). Okay, so we've established you need to do more than hang your food. This bag is very nice and I suppose it is possible it might not be openable by a bear. I've used it a few times in Northern MN and never had a bear come into camp but it is the nicest soft-sided bag I have seen. I bought this when I found out RMNP requires "commercially manufactured" bear protection. Now they are requiring a HARD SIDED canister! ARGH!!! Don't I ALREADY throw away too many $$$ for the government?!?!? Anyway, I went to REI today and bought the BV500 (same price Amazon). It fits perfectly in the lower pocket of my pack and my sleeping bag fits inside so I am not losing any pack space--but I did gain 3 pounds and I am $80 poorer). I am NOT HAPPY about that but I guess it's better than losing my food to a grizzly. The main point of this review is to recommend that you look at a hard-sided canister if you think you'll ever go to the Rockies or any other park that requires them. You'll avoid buying both like I did. If not, this is a good choice.

Seems pretty tough and is easy to use
Hopefully one day this will be approved for use in Yosemite and Kings/Sequoia. In the meantime used in Zion as so much lighter than a cannister and offered more protection than other sacks. Seems pretty tough and is easy to use.

Darn tough!
This thing is pretty darn tough. It will not hold the amount of food items that it claimed, but I do already like it much more than my hardside canister, and I haven't even used it yet. Will also help keep my pack weight down. Delivered on time as promised.
