I called LD Carlson, and they said that it's sodium bentonite.

Would this work for a dry shampoo as an alternative to talc?

Stacey, to my knowledge and experience, no it would not. Bentonite clay was more of a deep cleansing instead of using a drying shampoo. It does rid the scalp of impurities. I also use it mixed with apple cider vinegar as a facial. It works wonders for acne prone skin.

Ask for a chemical analysis. If the seller does not have it, how would anybody know if it is food grade? Also, ask for the MSDS.
