I don't know if this is a professional level tool but I had to cut a bunch of rope for some projects on a new boat some friends and I bought and this was perfect for it. No way you're cutting rope with scissors or anything small like that. This cut through rope like...ahem...a hot knife through butter. Really well made and comes with some accessories I honestly don't know how to use but the rope cutting was just what we wanted.

This hot knife does not cut with ease as is depicted in the photos & videos. I thought I could cut any foam with this but it seems to struggle with basic craft/hobby foams other than the type of foam commonly seen in styrofoam cups. The blades are too thick to cut straight lines in my opinion. The battery doesn't seem to last as long as I'd hope, upon non stop continuous use it would last 1.5-2 hours on one charge.

I needed this to cut foam for some seat cushions I was redoing. This worked great. It made nice clean cuts through 4in thick foam. I was able to use it throughout the job without charging the battery. Works better than I expected.

its always missing the charger or both charger and battery. I have ordered 9, out of the 9 only 1 came correctly. It's ridicules that I have to keep return the same thing over and over again.

I use it to cut foam for my model train layout. I used to use the cheap plug in ones but being portable and very efficient, it made carving mountains etc. much easier.
