Plant based backing for kids!
I bought this product as a gift for a family with a 9 year old. The child was thrilled to receive the baking kit and was further able to read the easy-to-understand instructions and for the first time do the baking all on her own (with some supervision)! The donuts that resulted were gobbled up by the friends that she had invited over for the baking party. This is truly a great gift idea that is unique and plant-based healthy besides!

Fun for the whole family! We loved these!
Our family had so much fun making these together and the adults had even more fun eating them as a guilt free indulgence! The taste is great compared to other vegan desserts we’ve had. Definitely will purchase again!

Nice Kit
I received this item through the Amazon Vine program in exchange for an honest review. The kid comes with the mix, two kinds of sprinkles, an icing mix, and six small silicone donut molds. It's a bit messy. One of the sprinkles, the icing mix, and the dough mix are together in one bag so the dough mix gets all over the other bags. I followed the directions and the dough was pretty thick. I thought maybe it would bake out more smoothly but it didn't so my donuts looked more like min-bundt cakes. The flavor is good! I don't eat a lot of vegan things and was happy with the flavor and how soft and moist the donuts were, especially when warm. There was a bit of grittiness to them, but I don't know if that was an error on my part. Overall this was a fun and fairly easy experience, but given the high price point it's not something I'd do again.

Fun
As an activity, this is excellent. As a treat, it is acceptable. The presentation is pretty cute — the components come in a white box and are set up like a gift. The aesthetics were destroyed on ours a bit, though, because the sprinkles bag had opened and there were sprinkles all over the packing and everything else. So, those were the first thing we saw. The donuts are a nice little size. They end up being quite dense, so I would not want them any bigger. The directions were a bit difficult to follow because of the odd measurements required. The kids had a lot of fun glazing the donuts, we also used some sprinkles we had at home. There were coconut flakes included, but those are not very popular in my house, so we skipped them. Overall, the activity of actually making the donuts was fun and did not take too much time. I was not a fan of the taste of the donuts, although my kids enjoyed them. Considering that these are vegan, I would say that is probably a flavor win for most people. The density was a bit offputting for me, and the kids managed to only eat about half a donut at a time. (Not a horrible thing, but unusual.) Overall, this was a good activity and this kit would make a nice gift for someone practicing veganism.

We’re not vegan but we like donuts and this did not disappoint
I got this for my 3 1/2 year-old that loves donuts and really likes to help in the kitchen. The directions were easy to follow and all of the ingredients were prepackaged so that made it very easy for her to do all of the pouring and mixing on her own. These donuts tasted good, but they were like cake in a donut shape. This set came with 6 silicone molds that you can reuse to make more donuts in the future. It also contains sugar sprinkles, coconut sprinkles (unsweetened coconut), frosting mix, and flour mix. All you really need is oil for the flour mix and water or milk for the frosting mix. The frosting mix directions stated to put 2 to 3 teaspoons of milk or water. At first, we used 2 teaspoons of almond milk and it was really thick. Then we upped it to 3 teaspoons which made it more like a glaze than frosting. Next time I would only do 2 teaspoons. Some problems I found with this product were minor but still disappointing. First, the package of sugar sprinkles was very weakly sealed and ended up exploding all over my countertop and floor when my child moved them around. We ended up having to use our own chocolate cookie crumbs on top of the donuts because we didn’t have enough sprinkles. Second, the coconut shreds and the frosting mix were inside of the package with the flour mix. I wish that all four packages were separate because we got flour mix all over the place trying to remove these from the package while pouring everything into the bowl. Ultimately, I had to rinse them under the water because I needed to keep them on my countertop since we couldn’t make the frosting right away and the coconut shreds were for the topping after everything was done. Third, I did notice some discrepancies between the package directions and the directions that came on the card inside the box. The package called for 3.5 ounces of water whereas the card said 3 ounces. I opted for 3.5 ounces to make the donut more moist. But why is there this discrepancy? Also, the calories are different on the package mix compared to the back of the box. They really should get their information straight before they start printing it in multiple places.

Mouthful of Disappointment - Texture Like a Muffin, Flavor was Completely Unappealing
The Planet Bake Donut Baking Kit is a fun to make baking kit that results in disgusting tasting "faux nuts". The donuts seriously taste terrible - this is one of the very few times that our family took a single bite then deposited everything in the trash. The donuts baked up nicely, were fun to frost and sprinkle, and looked like they would taste fine. Unfortunately, the donuts were simply inedible - the only thing nice about this kit is that we have the donut molds to make our own baked donuts later. Thankfully the only thing wasted was some water and a little oil, so it wasn't a huge loss, but given the price for what you get, this is a kit I would completely pass over. Buy yourself a silicone donut pan and bake your own donut recipe because this kit's donuts were just not worth the effort.
