Great product, worth the investment.
This is a very useful product and makes taking your child's temperature less of a struggle. To use the ear function, you have to twist the top off and it can be a bit difficult. A quick swipe across the head or a few seconds in the ear to grab a temperature is much easier than fighting your child until you hear the beeping from a regular thermometer. It is definitely a lot of money, however, it seems built to last (as of this review I have only tested it for 3 weeks) and will be worth the money in the long run. It is much easier to clean and sanitize since it does not have to sit in your child's mouth. It is easy to use and the batteries are easy to replace. I think everyone should have a thermometer like this in their house to be able to get a temperature quick so tracking multiple temps throughout the day is not a hassle at all. Again, just to reiterate, I did not see instructions for removing the head piece to use the ear function, but it is simply twisting the top off like a cap and it is very tight so, you may need to really put some muscle into it. For a kid moving and thrashing about, it may be hard to get a solid swipe on their forehead so, to have the ear functionality of this thermometer, it gives you that 2-3 second option. Make sure you hold the button until it beeps in the ear for an accurate read. Thank you.

Everything I would have expected from a head/ear temperature scanner.
Everything I would have expected from a head/ear temperature scanner. We received the thermometer from Amazon securely packaged. It comes in a nice, sturdy, colorful box. It's immediately clear that the device is not cheaply made. Though it is in a plastic case there is some heft to the device. It's not heavy but isn't so light-weight as to be flimsy either. It's about what one would expect from a device of this type. The device comes with a nice little bag that is perfect for storing the device and the instructions. I found that particularly useful as there are some tricks to using the device. First...while click and drag seems intuitive to me, the forehead scanner uses more of a click, drag, click again methodology for forehead scanning. There's a trick to ear scanning as well (pull the ear up and away from the head and then aim the thermometer for the eardrum). Given we are rarely sick and use a thermometer infrequently, I was afraid that we might forget the tricks between uses. With the bag one can easily store the instructions with the device. With any thermometer, accuracy is key. We tested this thermometer when we were well and not suffering any fevers. The thermometer returned readings in the normal range for each method of measure we used. We are very pleased with the thermometer. It's everything that we would expect from a thermometer of this type.

Replacement works much better
Edit: After posting this review @ 1 star, the company took the initiative to contact me and send me a replacement unit. The new unit properly reads ear temperatures now, and our whole family was around 98.3-98.6 when at rest on the couch. The forehead is still a bit low, but much more consistently in the low 98s. I have noticed with the new one that the placement of the thermometer on the forehead is very sensitive and can vary from 96.5 to 99.6 going from right above the nose up to the hairline; however, it seems that for each person the temperature gradient is consistent +- 0.3F. So at least now we can make a note where to measure each kid on their head to compare to a healthy 98.6 temperature. 4 stars due to the inaccuracy of +-0.3F, but I feel much more comfortable relying on this for temperatures now. ------------ We've had this for a few months now. We took the initiative of taking "healthy" temperatures in the forehead mode - multiple times because our kids turned it into somewhat of a game. Our healthy temperatures were usually 96.5-97.5 F. I know mid 97s can be legit, but I've never heard of 96 being normal. The ear one would never consistently work at all and read too low of a temperature. That said, when we needed it when I and my son had fevers, it was difficult to say what our temperature actually was. Do we add 1.5-2 deg to the 100F it's reading for a 101.5-102.0F temp? In any case, I am very disappointed in the quality of this product based on the other reviews. Should have returned it when our healthy temperatures were so frequently inaccurate.

So easy to use, my son can take his own temperature!
Love this thermometer! This is our second one after having the first for several years before it bit the dust when my son accidentally broke off a piece of the sensor. Love that it can be used for both forehead and ear with no fuss. My son loves checking his temperature himself; itโs pretty much foolproof.

Canโt be silenced but works good!
UPDATE: Not at all accurate. Our entire household is sick right now. I have felt slightly warm and took my temperature well over 100 times in the past 2 days. My head always shows cold, which is probably accurate considering I have a fan blowing on me and windows open. However, my ear temperature has shown inconsistent temperatures, even taking it multiple times within a minute. The truly bizarre thing is itโs showing that I have a rather severe fever every so often. I donโt feel hot, just slightly warm, yet sometimes it says I have a fever of 103.5, which is alarming. I checked myself with other thermometers which showed I do have a fever but only of 99 degrees, not that severe. This thing clearly does not work properly at all, at least by using it in ear. Iโm glad I didnโt actually pay for the item. I have a temporal thermometer that weโve had for a few years now. It can be fickle to use sometimes. I usually prefer the ear ones but I hated having to buy the caps. I always wondered why they didnโt just offer an ear thermometer that you can just clean rather than spending more money and having more waste just to check a temperature. Youโre already disinfecting things if you have someone sick in your house, so no big deal to take some alcohol and swab this clean. It was freezing outside when this was delivered, so it actually gave me an error message when I was trying to use it. It took about 30 minutes for it to actually work. Awesome that it came with batteries so I didnโt have to worry about finding some that fit and werenโt dead. It does seem to be accurate though. Testing it against my current temporal thermometer as well as a laser thermometer it seems to be getting readings that are almost exactly the same, not even a full degree difference so itโs accurate. I like that it has red when youโre showing a fever, thatโs handy. I sat on our forced air heater to get my skin warmer than normal and got a reading of 101 and it was read and beeped. What I donโt like the the beep cannot be turned off. Thatโs annoying. When you have a sick child that is trying to sleep and youโre bugging them checking on them it makes things worse. Iโm really surprised they didnโt include that feature as almost every digital thermometer that Iโve seen out there has that option. I like my old temporal thermometer for that because I can silence it and check temperatures without the kids even knowing Iโm doing it. So at the very least Iโm going to keep my old one for that. This will be used when theyโre awake. But itโs nice to have 2 because we seem to misplace ours a lot. It comes in a storage bag which is also nice. Our old one came with no cover or bag so itโs gotten pretty beat up over the years and Iโm not sure how it keeps the sensor accurate when itโs exposed to being thrown around our medicine cabinet and around the house when we have someone sick.

SO easy to use and read, excellent instructions and nice storage bag included- very impressed!
With 6 family members there seems to be a regular need for a thermometer, and the easier one is to use and read, the better. For whatever reason, that seems to be a regular struggle! The iProven ear/forehead digital thermometer is perfect for our family! The thermometer comes with clear, easy to understand instructions and a handy storage bag with cinch closure. I'm quite impressed that the instructions include a temperature chart for assessing your results and suggestions for reducing fever. The thermometer is comfortable to hold and the buttons are easy to operate. With two ways of reading your temperature, this thermometer is versatile and easy to use. You can either remove the sensor cap and use it to read the temperature from your ear canal, or leave the cap on and hold the thermometer on both temples and the middle of your forehead to get a reading that way. The ear method is fastest, but requires a few extra steps (removing cap and pulling ear). Either method is super easy and fast! The readings we have taken so far have all been fairly close to one another when comparing the two methods. The thermometer can read either Fahrenheit or Celsius, making it pretty universal. We are super pleased with iProven's thermometer and highly recommend it. It is so nice to have a well made, easy to use and read, trustworthy thermometer for our family!

What you need to know.
I loved the packaging. Iโm a cancer survivor and cleanliness is a big concern to me. To know that the box itself is sealed was surprising to see. The bag it came with made it much easier to store and unlike regular thermometers, I donโt have to fear of the pieces getting dirty. I have been wanting one of these kinds of thermometers for some time and this is so easy to use. You just swipe or just leave in the ear. It is a quick response which is a reason why I like it but one thing I have trouble with is the accuracy. I can take the same head temperature and come up with different results. They arenโt that far off but itโs hard for me to trust whether the head temp or ear temp is the way to go. The color coded screen will definitely help me in case I have a fever. With my recovery, I have to go to the hospital if my temp becomes to high so if it turns red, I at least have some piece of mind. It comes with a little booklet that helps you see how much of a difference the temp is from body heat. It does have an extended warranty so make sure to register it! Overall, I love it and Iโm definitely switching to this from now on.

3 years updated review: Ok but not entirely accurate
Purchased in 2019, review updated dec 2022. Pros: easy to use, uses common AAA batteries, includes soft bag, audible chirp when reading finished with multiple chirps if feverish. Cons: becomes less accurate if batteries are below half charge, ear readings are less accurate & consistent than head readings, backlight only remains lit for about 2 seconds - a few more would be truly helpful. All in all, this is a decent device if you are more interested in simply verifying a fever is present, less worthy if you are looking for more exact readings. As batteries age the readings become more and more inaccurate: according to this i have been running a fever all week with temperature spikes up to 114.9ยฐ, 126.2ยฐ, and dozens of readings from 106 to 110. There were a few times i would've believed i hit 106, but anything beyond would be comical if it didn't hint at serious medical emergencies. Last thing you want when you're feeling that miserable is adding worries about mortgaging your life away just to get an asperin from urgent care! I've experience these behaviors from this device several times over the past few years, normally fresh battery change helps at least a bit, but this week has proven that isn't always the case: included pics show readings were from 2 different sets of batteries, one of which was brand new. All in all, it's an OK device, but i feel I'm being quite generous in saying so. Maybe my standards are too high for today's market offerings, but for something of this sort accuracy matters and this offers little. Guess i should also note i want intending to add this review today, i just opened Amazon to look for a better thermometer as this one just isn't adequate for my intents.

Good Buy if you have fidgety Kids
The forehead temperature measurement is very erratic if not done properly. The ear temperature measurement is however spot on! Great buy if you're looking for an instant temperature monitor for kids.

Good product
Good device with accurate reading. I checked multiple times and good to see the readings were all accurate. Ear temperature doesnt match with forehead temp. Probably thats the fact. Its light weight and easy to use. Awesome for my baby. I just not to bother about her movements during measuring. There is an opportunity to improve the manual. No where mentioned about how to make it ear compliant though it was not difficult to find it out.

Otherwise I like that I can take the temperature in a second
The cap is hard to take off. When I take it off, even the cell cover comes out and I have to pull it out with force. Otherwise I like that I can take the temperature in a second.
