Great SSD for portable SSD drives and keep heat down.
These SSDโs seem to work in portable SSD enclosures. They are cheaper than my favorite Samsung 990 and really work nearly as well. Still fast (the Samsungs are a bit faster but unless you are transferring huge video files, it may not be a benefit) and the important thing is, these Lexars seem manageable heat well. But that is relative to the application too. Recommended

Great value... if it lives. (EDIT: 6 month update)
Edited 4/27/2024- Increased overall rating to 5 stars. After 6+ months, this ssd is still working perfect and hasn't really lost any speed or health (see 2nd pic) even though it has had over 3TB of data on it for the last 4 months. Great drive and glad I purchased 2 before the prices increased. I still think it's worth it at the current price. I've been running 2x 2tb Samsung 980 Pro ssd's on my Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IRX8 and was getting low on D: drive space. I could have shared some C drive space but with ssd prices being what they are at the present time, why bother? I decided it was time to step up to a 4TB ssd but I chose to try saving a little money and went with the Lexar NM790 4TB. I've used many Lexar storage products in digital cameras and digital audio players in the past and have never had one fail. It is my understanding that Lexar has changed hands so the jury is out as to whether this ssd will live a long reliable life, much like all of the previous Lexar products that I've owned. Having said this, so far I'm very happy with the drive, especially for my needs and the money spent. I am using it strictly as a game storage drive so my opinion may or may not be different if I were using it as an OS/boot drive. The Samsung 2tb 980P will continue to be my OS/boot drive since I know it's reliable, has DRAM and there's still plenty of room left for my DAWs and music. I did go ahead and run the CrystalDiskMark test set to the NVME settings. I only ran a single test in order to see what the drive was capable of when filled to 56% with over 2TB of data. In actual use, it works as good as the 980P and I have no complaints. Color me surprised- this drive is actually showing as good if not better numbers than the 35% full Samsung 980P 2TB. If this drive actually lives past the warranty, I will consider it an extremely good value. This is a much better deal than similarly priced QLC drives since this has TLC and is MUCH faster. Finally, someone produced a fast and affordable 4TB ssd without QLC.

Great amount of storage for an excellent price.
I've been looking at getting a larger NVMe SSD for a year or so now but prices have largely remained steady up until Fall off this year when they really started to get more affordable. This is replacing an older Gen 3 MP510 960GB. I was getting rather tired of having to pick and choose what I wanted installed on the drive. I picked the Lexar after reading numerous reviews and seeing nothing but positives. It's TLC based drive unlike most of the others around this price point for 4TB models. QLC drives have their own issues, the most concerning being longevity, as their NAND is much more easily worn out and typically do have any DRAM so in heavy or intense workloads they can drop to speeds like that of normal mechanical hard drive. It's got a rather high endurance rating, over twice the 1400 TBW of the drive out replaced. This was another reason for getting this as I don't have to worry about the drive failing due to exhausting the endurance. I'm sure I'll be looking gone before the drive would fail. One incredible thing is that Lexar managed to get all 4TB on a single side of the NVMe. Most drives they're on both sides making it harder to cool. My only con is that it does run quite warm. It does sit under my GPU and in general, idling on the desktop it can sit in the 50's. If your motherboard doesn't have a heatsink, you'll want to pick one up. I can't imagine how much worse it could be if I didn't have 2 140mm intakes on the side above the GPU blowing air down onto the board. I did buy a heatsink but have not yet installed it so I'll likely be looking at around a drop off 10-15C or more. If the extra $15-20 for the heatsink model didn't bother you, go that route. I will say I am hampering the drive as the m.2 slot it occupied is only a PCIE Gen 3 so it won't ever hit it's true speeds, but when I tested it, it was hitting the limit of the maximum bandwidth. I was getting identical read and write speeds capping out around 3500MB/s, a little less than half what the drive is capable of. If you're looking for speed, endurance, size options and a good price, the Lexar is the way to go. They've been in the storage game for a long time and have always been reliable for flash based storage

Solid drives for the money.
These work quite well in the external device I have, using Windows Storage to make a RAID out of them. I can't really ask more of them than that, can I? Easy and practical, I liked that they didn't come with heatsinks, since my enclosure came with its own. SSD speed is good, even over USB4.

Awesome 4tb for my new Alienware M18 R2 Laptop
When I was purchasing my laptop from Dell and was going to have them put a 4tb m.2 ssd. I chose the i9 Intel 14900HX with 32gb Ram and Nvidia geforce RTX 4070 8gb GDDR6 and the price difference from adding 1 tb to a 4tb was $1200 dollars which with the 4tb instead of 1 tb would have been $3199, super ridiculous, so I chose just the 1tb and it was only $1999 with everything I mentioned. So I bought this 4tb from amazon for only $239 and bought the m.2 ssd support bracket with thermal shield heatsink for dell alienware from amazon as well for only 23 dollars. So now I have a new Alienware laptop with 5tb total and this 4tb SSD is super fast when I ran benchmarks on it. It was faster than the 1 tb that came with it, so I choose to install all my games and high resource hog software to that drive instead of the 1tb. Huge difference in performance, for the price was well worth it to get from AMazon than pay Dell an extra ridiculous $1200 dollars to just have 4tb, when I spent only $260 extra and have 4tb plus the 1tb that came with laptop. Guys if purchasing a new laptop for gaming or anything really do some research on the laptop you are buying and if you want more storage for your laptop make sure it can be upgraded to the amount you want. So for example you want the Lenovo that can come with 1tb or 2x 4tb, don't pay them the extra ridiculous prices to add it, get the laptop with all the specs you want but with the least amount of storage and upgrade it yourself and will save a ton of money.

Works well
This has worked well for my needs over the last month or more. Installed well then after restarting and changing some BIOS in the computer it showed right up. Only thing keeping it down from 5 stars is it took nearly 2 months to be delivered. A month more because of snow. I don't understand why one day of snow delayed them by a month to fulfill the order.

No Problems
I don't care about absolute max speed, good speed and reliable is what I shoot for. This was bought as a spare from my W11 build which has two of the same in Mirrored RAID for the OS. To date they have given me no cause to complain so five stars. But I haven't bench marked them because a bench mark doesn't mean as much to me, as a computer feels reasonably fast (for how I use it) and works reliably. Mirrored RAIDed M2's work fine but by the time you might need to replace one, an exact replacement might be harder to find. I create a RAM Drive using a little of the installed 64 gigs of DDR5 and relocate the browser caches (as best as can be done) to lower the amount of writes to the M2's and help extend their life. I use WinRamTech's Enterprise version software for the RAM Drive, inexpensive and works well, I'm sure there are others.

Better than my Kingston Fury Renegade
The Lexar NM790 1TB I get 7100mbps read and 6500+Mbps with this new drive as well I copied a 50gb file at about 2.5gbps sustained (copies at a consistent rate. No up and down speeds), this drive doesn't have a Dram module it uses the latest HMB 3.0 and Dynamic SLC Cache. I believe that it uses your DDR4 / DDR5 Ram as the cache. whereas... The Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB I get 6850+Mbps read and 6400+mbps This drive unlike the Lexar has a built in DRAM Module on the Drive. However the Lexar seems to be outperforming. So DRAM is not as necessary as it used to be. Although I've heard that very very large data transfers do work better with DRAM. But I am happy with this purchase. Also has a 5 year warranty provided by Lexar. Cheers:)

I'm Very Happy
I was in the market for a another ssd for more storage for my game files. I normally stick with crucial for my ssd's but I didn't want to do another sata ssd since i don't have much room in my case and my mother board has no m.2 slots. So I did some research and came across this pcie m.2 adapter. I told my tech buddy about it and he said that it would be a good idea and then he recommended me the lexar drive cause he has one and said it works great. Now normally I stick with crucial for my ssd's but when I was looking at prices lexar at the time was just a bit cheaper for my budget. This drive is amazing. Its super fast (faster then all my other drives) It was fairly easy to install into the adapter. Overall I'm very happy with it so far I haven't had it all that long but so far so good.
