**Update. After leaving the previous review, SmallRig offered a full refund on the product. I have been a SmallRig user for a good while and fully support the products they make. Sadly it was something small in the design that made my setup not functional or make sense to use this setup. Not being able to spin the d tap plug is a bit frustrating. The direction the cable sticks out while being plugged in makes this not useable unfortunately. Previous d tap setups, I’ve been able to unscrew the end and flip it so the cable comes out the other direction if that makes sense.

I use the SmallRig D-TAP Replacement Dummy Battery for my Canon R6 Mark II, and it works flawlessly. It lets me run my camera off a V-Mount battery, which is a huge help for long shoots and weddings. Everything SmallRig makes feels high-quality, and this battery adapter is no exception — solid, reliable, and easy to use.

Updated Canon R5C case: When the camera was turned off, “Err” instead of normal charging sign appeared a couple of times during a field trip in Canada. Ended up returning the dummy. —-original review We bought this dummy and SmallRig VB99 battery to power our new R5C. As a number of negative reviews are related to R5C but no success reported here, we started with caution by measuring its output voltage (~7.8v, good), testing it on two old Canon 6Ds (both worked well), then finally plugged in R5C, again it worked well in both photo & video mode. In addition, adding USB-C PD (powered by the same VB99 battery) enabled 8K 120fps video with autofocus. Thought just initial test results, I thought it could be useful to R5C owners since there are few positive cases reported. I might update the review after a field trip in extreme cold weather.

So far it's held up well. No issues so far. I use it with Canon R5 and R7 and it does what it is supposed to do. I would recommend to anyone needing a D-Tap dummy for an LP-E6 battery. Works just the same as my Kondor Blue, except it is black.

R5C - tried it for the first time ( need to shoot video ) and plugged into my anton bauer titan battery dtap. Camera turns on for 5 seconds then shuts off. This thing does not provide adequate voltage.

Purchased this after a milky way timelapse got cut short by poor battery life from the 2 LP-E6NH batteries in my 5D4 battery grip gave out. I have since been able to shoot long timelapse sequences with this dummy battery connected to an external V battery with much higher capacity. The 5D4 has a small rubber seal that you will pull out of the way for the cord to fit. If using it in the battery grip tray, do not install it with another battery as you will receive an error. Otherwise, the camera accepts it just like any battery. This is a good purchase for anyone shooting long intervals, timelapse, or long video where battery failure is terminal to the shoot. (My motion control system is also powered by v batteries, so I already had those on hand.)

Works fine on Canon R6II but does not work on Canon R5II. Not a design flaw or defect just not compatible with the new R5II battery needs.

Bei Dummy Akkus ist das immer ein gewisses Risiko, ob sie für das individuell verwendete Setup funktionieren oder nicht, das kann individuell ganz unterschiedlich sein. Bei mir funktioniert der Dummy Akku Gott sei Dank. Mein Setup: Canon R5C, Dummyakku mit D-Tap Anschluss verbunden mit SMALLRIG V Mount Battery VB99 SE, 99Wh / 6800mAh. An dem VB99 wird neben der R5C auch gleichzeitig mein Iphone 15 pro max über usbc geladen. Alles problemlos.

La verdad es que smallrig nunca decepciona .. excelente funcionamiento !!!!
