A historical fiction. Fictional documentary. So astonishing and just timely to be read amid those turbulent times. Again as a foreigner I appreciate American writers stated to confess after all said&done. Does it clear their sins against humanity? We will be the judge. People of oppressed, exploited countries. Time s up. Everyone should read and make their siblings memorize what s happened in order to uprise against such wrongdoings in future. Thnks to Mr Perkins at least to have shed light into darkness bravely although lately. Hope his sins be forgiven

Fantastic, shocking read
Any book that explains how reality is, instead of how the media portrays it, gets my thumbs up. This book sits in the same spectrum as Noam Chomsky's books criticising US foreign policy. A must read for anyone still left with a belief that capitalism is OK.

hegemony and exploitation of the poor by the powerful and rich nation states
Absolutely stunning expose on the machinations of the military industrial complex and the US govt's deep state and their dark conspiracy to dominate the world contrary to the propaganda that they put out about freedom and liberty and the sheer hypocrisy of it all =will stun anyone naive enough to swallow whatever the american media may put out. Must read for all the libertarians and lovers of freedom of humanity from domination, hegemony and exploitation of the poor by the powerful and rich nation states.

THE BOOK to understand the world: poverty, predatory capitalism, debt, wars in developing & 'developed' countries.. a thriller!
The New Confessions of an Economic Hit Man was a shock to me! All the poverty, corruption, wars I had kept wondering about for years!... At last, I could connect the dots, thanks to John Perkins! It is the story of his life, his experience: ostensibly an economist, in fact an EHM whose job was to offer developing countries enormous loans with which to improve their infrastructures, thus providing wildly inflated projections of the economic growth these improvements would bring.Presented to the right people, these bogus figures did the trick, a deliberately underhand assault on a nation's de facto sovereignty. Contractors - US contractors, naturally - would move in and build the pipelines or the drilling platforms or the power stations, the economy would fail to grow anything like as fast as predicted, once the interests paid, there would be nothing left for education, health.. necessary reforms for the common good, eventually the country would default on its loan, and so find itself indebted, enslaved forever... forced to sell its natural resources at cut-price..Bribes or veiled threats generally convinced ' unwilling' politicians and if they kept on resisting.. there were riots, revolutions to deposit them, lethal 'accidents' or wars - John Perkins gives us plenty of examples in a lively, enthralling narrative! I just couldn't put the book down! And yet, it was heartbreaking to understand that I, too, had been deceived for years.. things I suspected but didn't want to believe, rumors.. turned out to be even more machiavellian than I had ever imagined.. The light was crude, suddenly! The second part of the book deals with scores of modern EHM ( « a cancer that has metastasized ») who use the same tools plus tax evasion and subsidies ; vulture funds eventually purchase the countries’debt for a few cents.. I wish the book were translated into French soon: it is an emergency for French people to read it, to open their eyes on the "corporatocracy" at work in France:we have neither sovereignty nor autonomy, have a huge debt; our national patrimony, our monuments and firms are sold cut-price; wages and welfare are dwindling, our 'leaders' lead dirty wars despite our interests ... They despise our national heritage .. our once flourishing agriculture is doomed, indebted farmers commit suicide every day....we are disinformed and deceived..Thereforeit is an emergency for French people to open their eyes on NATO,Euro and the EU its lobbies, the laws passed under their influence, the harmful policies led, the submission of unable/corrupt politicians and "experts".. Many Europeans signed a petition against the TTIP (negociated behind our backs) and the petition went into the waste paper basket, as usual.... The harm done to Greece is a good example of the strategy at work.. not different from the examples given by the author..Can we do something ? John Perkins believes we can transform 'the mutant form of capitalism' into a system based on sustainability and justice. At the end of the book, he explains how we can fight for a better world, offering practical strategies for turning the death economy into a life economy .
