Nesco 18 Quart Roaster Slow Cooker - Red

Nice roaster! We cooked a ham in it for Thanksgiving this year- to go along with our turkey. It's perfect and it frees up valuable real estate in my wall oven. My Mother had one for many years when I was growing up but she downsized and gave hers away. Until I can bump up to a double wall oven this is perfect!

When you need a crockpot for a BIG family gathering, this is perfect! Cooks big soups and meals well, but make sure you have room to store it!

This thing is nuts. I just didn't want to deal with a Thanksgiving turkey taking up the main oven the entire preparation time. Well, let me tell ya, this thing is awesome! Also, people get a kick out of how big it is. Was often told they've never seen anything like it. Slow cooked a 20+ Lbs. turkey overnight. Then finished it off in the morning at a higher temperature. We did use a turkey bag with it. I DID use a bit of water in the base of the unit. The thing gets HOT. Like, holy moses. If you turn it up to max while testing it - it's definitely a powerful (little? lol) unit. I was keeping an eye out on having the coatings come off the unit and into the food, but thankfully I didn't see any of that on its maiden voyage. Would buy again! Turkey came out great and family members told me it was one of the best turkeys they've had. Mission accomplished, good turkey, without it hogging the oven the entire preparation time.A Word to Nesco,Please make more attachments/accessories for this unit. Like a multicompartment buffet server insert, or divided compartments for two different types of products - Turkey/Ham, fish/beaf, etc. (I do get the food safety that might be an issue here) Would definitely buy and recommend to everyone.Thank you,Jon

Update to original review below: We received the replacement roaster, and promptly put it to use cooking a half ham. Because I live in the desert, and the place I live is a nightmare to cool, we set it up outside, did the recommended 1 hour at max temp to burn off any manufacturing grease, and the next day, it was out again to cook the ham. After it started to smell great, the neighbors were out looking at it, wanting to know where they could get one.After the mess of the original delivery, this was a nice resolution.I've had a Nesco roaster for ages decided to upgrade, because I think at this point it's over 30 years old and yes it works but it's a little too big and is showing its age. So I look in order this one. It's pretty it's red it's a decent size but not overly big. Well the huge box we got it in was not damaged at all looked fine. The packaging The roaster comes in however was completely torn up. It was wrapped in plastic to keep it together so it's obvious that somebody had seen that there was an issue but didn't bother to raise a concern before it left the warehouse. But I'm thinking okay if the product inside is fine I can somehow make do so I have rather have had a box it I could store it in again I can make do. Yeah that was not to be. The roaster is dusty and dirty so it's been kicked around probably on the floor of the warehouse, and there is a huge dent right next to the knob as you can see in my picture. I have requested a replacement and we'll send this back once I received the replacement however if the next one comes like this I am probably going to raise a stink. Thankfully this isn't something I had purchased for a gift because there is no way that even if the product itself had been in good shape that I would be able to give this as a gift because of the packaging. The packaging being completely destroyed at the warehouse and was allowed to leave the warehouse and sent to a customer is unacceptable.

A great addition for 1-oven kitchens.

We make several whole turkeys each year. This is a great alternative to heating up the whole house with the regular oven. We put it on a counter on the deck, all the heat stays outside plus it uses so much less electrictiy compared to the standard oven inside.I highly recommend this cooker.
