Not going to use these for food, just in case (unknown brand)
I stick with U.S. suppliers (even if they are perhaps made overseas), or brands that I know and have used for years (whether domestic or abroad) when it comes to food preservation. For unknown brands, I have plenty of other uses for oxygen absorbers that aren't food related (I vacuum seal other items, which I won't name, with the expectation that by doing so and storing them in a metal airtight container, humidity and oxygen won't derogate the brass...if you know what I mean, you know what I mean). The problem that I have when using them in this manner is that by vacuum sealing, it already makes it pretty air-tight inside the bag. Adding oxygen absorber(s) is merely to capture any potentially residual oxygen remaining, but doesn't otherwise "show" any further tightness inside the bag, etc. As such, I have to assume (and hope) that these are working as intended. I can say that even if not the full 500cc, anything to get rid of trace amounts of oxygen still inside the bag is better than nothing.
