Little Book of Dolce & Gabbana: The story behind the iconic brand

Perfect. Looks great on display.

Haven’t bought these to read as much as to use to style a bedside table! But had a leaf through and they made interesting reading. Neat little hardback books. They look stylish and fitted my colour scheme.

Well illustrated but the text sticks to the factual side of D&G’s meteoric rise to the top of the fashion industry at the expense of anything remotely personal or insightful or revealing. There are no interviews with either D or G; not even a quote by those associated with them. The references to Sicily and Italian post war films are pertinent initially but become overdone through endless repetition. The chronology of collections is recounted with a starkness bordering on dullness - we’re left with little idea of how these shows were conceived or even received by either critics or customers. Overall this is as dry as one could possibly make it; a patchwork quilt of secondary source material which echoes the variable standard of authorship in this disappointing series as a whole. Too bad this and other titles couldn’t match the benchmark set by Karen Homer’s excellent Alexander McQueen volume.
