Great basic scanner for DIY mechanic.
Great little scanner. Over the years I had multiple scanners, so far this one works the best, even though it's early days. Bought this one to do Brake system bleeding on Toyota Prius, including bleeding the stroke simulator, worked perfectly. Unfortunately, as this car is JDM I couldn't enter VIN number to identify the car, would be useful if you could use chassis number instead. You can identify model manually though. Menus need some time to get used to. Overall, very happy with my purchase, I'm sure I will use it many times in the future.

Great product
Bought the TopDon scanner to use on my Focus ST and it’s been brilliant. Easy to set up, connects quickly, and has loads of useful functions that you’d normally expect from much more expensive tools. I’ve used it for fault code reading, live data, service functions and putting the electronic parking brake into service mode without any issues. The app is straightforward to use and updates are simple to install. For DIY maintenance and diagnosing problems at home, it’s excellent value for money. Definitely one of the best automotive tools I’ve bought and I’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable diagnostic scanner.

Very good - Requires patience.
I've had this for a couple months now. Overall, for the money, extremely well impressed with it! It has some little quirks and nuances, sometimes when using the base functions like electronic parking brake, it'll give an error, but if you go into the ABS/ESP module and clear any outstanding faults, it will then usually work. Sometimes just restarting the software on your phone again also helps. The device is very, very slow to use, and this is on a flagship Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, so it's unlikely the phone holding it back. The full system scans usually take about 5-7 minutes to complete. HOWEVER, this is a very, very cheap way into a full system scanning device, and is actually impressive when considered fully like that. The device is fairly easy to use, but experience with scan tools is ideal as all different scan tools have different personalities, this one is just awkward sometimes when running through multiple systems. The live-data readouts are also a little bit of an annoyance as you can't specifically select what you want, you have to select something you're trying to check (Smooth running operation of the fuel injectors for example, even though you only want to see the high pressure fuel rail pressure.) It's VERY durable. Very. It's metal and plastic, and the metal itself is also the heatsink for the circuitry inside, so if it feels warm to the touch after use, don't be alarmed as that's totally normal. When holding it, it feels remarkably solid, and has a nice weight to it, so it's obviously crammed with quite lot inside - that or it's got a lead weight in it. Regardless, I was very impressed with the fit and finish. As for the application itself, it is slow. But, it seems to at least competently do it's function and I've never gone through a process and had it crash mid-way through. Overall, I've been very impressed. I can't bring myself to give it the full 5 stars as it is painfully slow, the live data information is clunky and awkward to get access to and the application's "diagnostic" page can sometimes freeze for 10-20 seconds randomly, which doesn't matter for 95% of people, but when I'm trying to work through a job, it's quite important that I can quickly work through multiple vehicle systems. Overall, a solid 4.5/5 from me, which I was insanely surprised about as I expected to give it a 2/5 before I got hands on with it.

Worth the extra cost over others
The Topdon isn't a cheap scanner, but then it's not a cheap scanner that can't really do anything! Buy once and buy right. This is a fully functioning tool for home or professional use. For cars in the VAG group, you usually need specialist tools and garage support to identify issues and even to clear a fault code after a repair. This does both and will save you hundreds and many, many times what it costs you. I use it across a range of family vehicles as a DIY mechanic, and it's brilliant. You need a wifi signal to use the AI tool to dive into an issue in a deep way; that's probably my only small complaint. But if you need a full-function diagnostic tool, this is it.

It’s ok
Yes ok it’s a nice little device but it doesn’t do some of the basics, I bought it as it states dpf code clearance, unfortunately I can’t reset the fault code or enter the new value of eolys fluid after changing the pouch on my DS3 so I’ll still need to pay a garage to have them do it on their designated code reader.

It does not deliver
I puchased this tool a year ago for simple odd DiY jobs mainly on our Volvos. Described as being suitable for Amateur/DiY use. I have to tell you that in that time I have spent hours trying to get it to function. I have discovered that if purchased through Amazon, there is no direct support from within the UK but only from China. No mention of that when I purchased it. I have lost countless hours trying to get it do even simple tasks, it wont even put the EPB into and out of service postion. ALL I can do with it is establish and sometimes, not always, some take several attempts, delete fault codes. Useful in itself but my phone does that quicker. Now I find I need to take out a subscription for some £50. Presumable for the same lack of performance. I find the glowing reviews here below frankly works of fiction. Fortunatly in most cases there are work arounds

Better scan tool than my first one
I have had a pleasant surprise, unbeatable value for money. It is very good for vehicle maintenance and diagnosis of major breakdowns, with its respective fault codes. There are some diagnostic devices that are more expensive and do exactly the same thing, but they are not also devices that you can use for much more specific things.

Works perfectly on my 2012 Grand Caravan
I had an Airbag light on and my old scanner couldn't detect the issue, so I watched some YouTube videos about this particular scanner and it looked like it would read all the sensors on my vehicle. I ran a scan for the first time today and it came up with a whole bunch of fault codes, some old and some new (including the Airbag code). So I did what was suggested on YouTube and cleared all codes, then ran the scan again. The only fault code that was displayed again was the one for the Airbag U0172. I looked on YouTube for this code and It turns out to be a speed sensor in the drivers door that had lost connection, the power connector had come loose. The hardest part of this repair was taking the door skin off and putting it back on again, clicking the connector back in took a couple of seconds and the problem is fixed. For the price of this unit it saved me hundreds of dollars and a repair shop as they can say virtually anything if you don't know what the problem is before you go and they always say that they have to run a scan of your vehicle first which is more expensive than the cost of this unit alone. I really like how easy this scanner is to set up and use and because I always have my Android phone with me, I can always check for issues at any time. It's very accurate, easy to use, and does the same job as a lot of scanners several times it's cost. I am very pleased with this scanner and would recommend to anyone looking to save money on auto repairs.

Does a lot depending on the car
I am reviewing this for one vehicle at this time, a 2007 Subaru Forester X. I will get into the details about that in a bit but let's get general. It's free for the first year, but if it's still being used and you can catch a sale... But be smart, you can make another email. I would just buy a new unit on sale for like $60, BAM! You just got a new unit and another year. Some may be upset about the limitations, but let's be honest if it works for you it is still by far the cheapest I've found to do ANY bidirectional kung fu. It's ui isn't great, but poke around and you can get a hold of quite a bit. It will scan for your VIN, and then your model range or exact year. You can put it in manually but it finds mine quick so I haven't tried it. From what I see you need to scan the "BCM" or mini computer of each part. So you scan the main ECU and it will give you the general things which is pretty limited for me. It does offer many different cars and you download each individual car's database. So for my SUV it's old, but it does what I need. Kinda. So my main reasoning was the difficulty in getting my throttle body to relearn itself properly. It has an easy procedure if your A/C system is good, mine is not. Topscan says it can do the throttle relearn, but it simply gives instructions to restart, run for 10 seconds and it's done. It is not indeed done, nothing changed. The magic is to control your idle, which was why it needs to relearn the throttle but since that didn't work eventually if it's driven enough and isn't dying at every stop it relearns itself. So the trick is there is an idle adjustment. It's in a separate section, but it is rudimentary yet it'll do. So it starts off at whatever rpm your engine is by 25. So it tells me it's at 825rpm... It lies my tach an loping motor says under 600rpm. So here's what you do, there's the ability to add or subtract in denominations of 50 but the RPM accuracy isn't great so here's what I did. I put mine up to 1075 RPM and you press start. I believe it won't stop until you press the stop button. It 100% keeps my car from dying when coming to a stop or just any time the clutch is in and I'm not adding throttle it died in the before time, so last week. It's only been about 30 miles, so just to and from work so it hasn't learned itself yet. So Topscan... Again for me it's doing what I want, but it does seem kind of lacking otherwise. However, it's still all the stars because there is nothing comparably priced with the features. This ain't no mechanics thousand dollar scan tool, but for me I just remember... $60 vs $600-1200, SOLD! It can act like a normal code reader and such too, but here's why it's worth the extra $40 over an ELM327, it read and cleared my airbag code! Granted it came right back, but now I know it's my driver's airbag or the wiring for that one in particular. How much would a shop charge just to tell you that? Idk in this economy but less than that scanner & a year of big boy scanning included. Download the app before you buy, add your car and see what it will let you do for your car. I did and am not looking back! In a newer or different car it may be so much easier, but this is not simple for me at least. Totally worth it.

Superapparaat!
