Stop the Wells hate
Not sure why Wells and Co get so much hate. Solid, heartfelt arcs, dynamic characters, and quite a few unexpected twists and turns.

3.5 stars
While it was nice to clear up the events that led to the beginning of this series, it was kind of mediocre. I was interested, but not that interested or satisfied with the story.I never really cared for Ms. Marvel, she always came across as a bossy know-it-all to me. She did die a hero, though. Even being a fictional character, it's still sad when someone young dies. Of course, before I read this, I knew that Marvel was bringing her back already, so the special issue comes across as yet another cash grab by Marvel. Here's hoping that this series improves going down the line. So far, it's been 1 poor story for every 2 good stories.

Shame on whoever published this
Zeb Wells has written some of the worst issues of Amazing Spider-Man it has been readers' displeasure to view, but this volume collects the absolute nadir. But this is a cornicopia of misogyny and racism. The misogyny drips off the page, with Wells executing a textbook fridging of Kamala Khan, removing all her agency in her senseless death, with graphic depictions of her death throes. To make it worse, at first the reader is supposed to believe that it is Mary Jane Watson, who Wells has turned into a lobotomized 1950s sitcom housewife, that is murdered - which means that Kamala - a Muslim Pakistani-American teenager who swore off shapeshifting into adult white women because she realized she was doing that out of internalized racism and that she would be sticking to her own form from then on - shape shifted into a white adult woman just so she could stand around and be stabbed in the back. This is made even worse when you realize the Wells has a habit of killing and maiming mostly characters of color. Wells doubles down on the misogyny by having the nonsensical villain - whose powers come and go on a whim and who appears and disappears on a whim - call Mary Jane "scarlet woman," a fairly well known slang term for promiscuous women. This entire run has been poorly crafted, but the mean-spirited spite is never more apparent than it is in this story arc.Not recommended for anyone with more than three brain cells. And this is certainly not for kids or impressionable young teens.
