High-quality, well-made shock mount

Before I begin, a little bit of history: In the early days of recording studios, microphones were actually suspended from the ceiling by means of springs. A prominent German brand in the audio industry began using circular suspensions that extended four springs toward the microphone heads because they were either round or square-shaped *(Listing microphone names would be endless). But it wasn't until the 1960s, with the advent of cylindrical microphones, that suspensions using elastic bands like this began to be used. Instead of springs, which were still "inductive" anyway. So these types, called Spiders, became common. Something that I liked a lot and had not seen before is that it is completely made of plastic. *(Although the ad description mentions metal, the holder is NOT entirely metallic, it is made of Nylon.) In my opinion, this is better because Nylon is not an "inductive" material. In other words, there is no transfer of spurious sounds. I imagine that you may be skeptical that it is made of plastic and not metal, and I understand, but let me tell you something: the tires of Jumbo Jets are made of Nylon.

I'm sad to say this is a disappointing product. Plastic, not aluminum as advertised.

Let me start by saying that I was very excited to receive this item. So imagine my disappointment when I pulled it out of its box and discovered that it is not made of aluminum as the listing clearly states. Almost every bit of it is plastic. Cheap feeling hard plastic at that. But definitely not aluminum. I am confident there is no aluminum--at all--in this mount. The only metal in the entire design is the bolt that tensions the mic-stand swivel, the "European" mic adapter plug, and the two arms that "open" the plastic receiver for the mic. Along with a few tiny screws.Everything else--plastic. It flexes under the weight of my condensers. The swivel doesn't hold well, thanks again to being 100% plastic. I could easily break this with my bare hand. I dare not try to mount a mic to a stand with this.As you can see in my photos, even considering that it's all plastic, the threads are not cut completely around the stand mount. Again, the kind of thing you could destroy just by accidentally torquing it too hard on the stand. At minimum (bare minimum) you'd expect to see a brass insert here, although those are not ideal either. This component should be metal--particularly as the item is described as being made of aluminum. But no.So sadly for me, not useful. Again, what a sad disappointment. I can rate it only one star.I should be clear about one thing. I've ordered other components from this company and have been pleased with them. So that's the puzzler here. They've always described their products accurately, but this one, unfortunately not. I don't want to impugn the company itself, because of their other good products. This one is just a miss for me.

Reduce the vibrations, smooth out your audio

Like a few others have stated I didn't pay close attention to the printed diameter, instead I saw a picture of what I thought was my mic and order this. I will say, that even though I can't use this for any of my mics, the build quality is pretty similar to the ones that I use. However, the mount base is plastic, and in my experience, over-tightening tends to be an issue that leads to a stripped-out or cracked base. I would have sent this back regardless because I have never had a good experience with plastic bases. This would work in a pinch, but buyers be warned. Just make sure you pay attention to those diameter measurements.

Low Quality

click transferBe advised that this unit is entirely made of plastic. The actual mount in the center of the cage is plastic and cage itself is made out of thin gauge, stretchy, bungee cord material. When we inserted our studio microphone, and secured it into place, it was the plastic mount that should have held in place, but it did not. The microphone was allowed to easily slide out of the mount once in place. This is not the professional design product that we are accustomed to in studio settings.

make sure it fits the diameter of your microphone

Didn't fit my main microphone so make sure it fits yours, but I'm sure I'll come across a mic that it does fit eventually. As far as the range of motion and sturdiness I'd say its a good product. High quality and can hold mic still without causing feedback noise and etc.... I like this mount because its easy to slide your mic in and out of it, just pull the binder clips design back and thats it. super simple, effective, and sturdy.

Its ok for the price

I found the picture to be deceiving. It shows what appears to be a full size condenser mic so I ordered it only to find out my mic would not fit. The size in inches and millimeters is clearly stated in the ad so it's on me for not reading fully. It's not a bad unit for the price but it will not fit most standard mics, so double check your measurements. I got this because the elastic on my old mount had dried out and lost its flexibility, it worked out, as the elastic on this mount worked on my old one, so basically my problem was solved and I have some extra hardware. Measure your mic before purchase.

Good grip on mic, does a great job of eliminating thumps

Be sure to check the diameter of your microphone before purchasing this shock mount! The gap does expand quite a bit to accommodate a good number of standard mic sizes, but it was a bit of a tight fit for me. Super simple to use, just squeeze the grips to expand the receptacle, slide in your mic, and release the grips to tighten them around the mic. The shock mount does come with a fitting to reduce to 5/8 thread, but I didn't need that for my setup. This does a good job of eliminating any movement or thumping on my desk to provide a much cleaner audio signal for recording sessions.
