Film Noir is concerned with errors and confusions. We don't know what's going on but we know something bad is out there controlling events. Film maker, Errol Norris, described Film Noir as stories about scape-goats, the person who finds themselves caught in a net and the more they struggle, the deeper and deeper they become entwined in the nightmare. Hunted, Sapphire, So Long At The Fair, Turn the Key Softly and 21 Days available together for the first time in this British Film Noir box set. Review: All movies were in good condition - Movies were good for the erra when they were made Review: splendid entertainment - There's a really excellent selection of films here....just the ticket for sitting back with your partner, turn the lights down low, have a glass of wine close at hand, relax and enjoy mysteries and thrills without all the 'over the top' gimmicks of modern entertainment......and very reasonably priced!

Ok, but NOT Noir..
A reasonable collection of old Brit Crime movies that is well worth the very reasonable price - as long as you dont expect TOO much- and certainly don't expect too much noir. You should expect a lot - just look at the cast lists.. Laurence Olivier. Vivian Leigh, Dirk Bogard..But somehow they all fail to rise above 'enjoyable' 'Sapphire', which at the time would have been ground breaking and dangerous now comes over as preachy and even a little patronising. 'Turn the key softly' is social drama, not even really crime, but has tence moments that has you worried about the lead characters 'Hunted' magnificently avoids sickly sentimentality (just) despite having cute kiddie in danger '21 days' is simular to 'Key' in making you sympathetic to the underdog struggling to escape a criminal mistake 'Too long at the fair' is the best, having genuine tension, but is more a thriller. Go on, if you like old Brit B&W, treat yourself, it's a good buy, and I think you will enjoy it, but don't buy it as a noir collection, because it isn't

These are not really film Noir, they are really like B grade program fillers from the 50's

Not noir
There's a trend at the moment to repackage whatever they can put under the banner of noir. Though interesting, this is another example of the same. Closest I guess would be Turn the Key Softly, but not the others. Some of the sensibilities are there, and the films themselves stand on their own, but....
