Samar Anand (Shahrukh Khan), a major in the Indian Army, defuses a bomb showing no fear or regard for personal safety. After a while, Akira Rai (Anushka Sharma), a Discovery Channel filmmaker, dives into a river in Ladakh and is rescued by the major. Samar gives her his jacket but leaves before retrieving it. Akira finds his diary in the jacket pocket and starts reading. The diary recounts Samar's earlier years as a struggling immigrant in London. He worked as a musician and found other menial jobs to support him and his roommate. One day Samar is offered work as a part-time waiter where he meets Meera (Katrina Kaif) during her engagement party. In exchange for English lessons, Samar agrees to teach her how to sing. In the process, Samar and Meera fall in love. On the day Meera is supposed to tell her father about their relationship, Samar gets into a terrible accident. Meera prays to God to save his life and makes a vow to never meet him again. Soon Samar makes a speedy recovery and comes to know about the vow. In anger he tells her to go away and leaves London. Samar challenges God to keep him alive while he will risk his life everyday because he believes his death is the only way to make Meera lose her faith in the deity who stole his love. He goes to India and enlists in the Indian Army. As Akira finishes reading the diary, she requests her supervisor to make a documentary about a bomb disposal squad and is granted permission. She approaches Samar for help and soon gets acquainted with him and his team. She starts showing romantic feelings towards Samar but he refuses to reciprocate due to his past. Akira makes the film successfully and departs for London, earning praise for her work. To launch the film, she needs Samar to visit the city. After she extensively tries to persuade a reluctant Samar, he finally agrees to come to London, but is hit by a car upon arrival. Samar is diagnosed with retrograde amnesia, remembering only the events before his first accident a decade years ago. Akira tracks down Meera and persuades her to aid in Samar's recovery. Meera agrees and pretends to be Samar's wife. During this time, Akira realizes that Major Samar is only a fragment of the young Samar. He used to be a jubilant social man but is now a bitter lonely individual. One day Samar comes across a bomb planted in the London Underground and helps defuse it. This event triggers his memory and he realizes Meera was lying to him. Samar confronts Meera and gives her a choice, either be with him or he will keep on risking his life until he is dead. Samar departs for Kashmir where he continues defusing bombs. During a conversation with Akira, Meera realizes that her beliefs and prayers subjected Samar to a fate worse than death. Meera, realizing her mistake, travels to Kashmir where they reunite. Samar defuses his last bomb and proposes to her on the spot. Jab Tak Hai Jann - A Truly Beautiful Film
This is the first Bollywood Film I have ever seen and I am so happy I chose this one to watch. A song from the film brought me here and watching this story in full was an emotional experience that felt tailor-made for my spirit at this time. My mom passed away recently, and at one point she was trying to learn the Hindi language. I know without question that she would have loved this film. It was romantic, energetic, funny, heartbreaking, and so sentimental. The cinematography in particular was especially beautiful to me and while I would normally have qualms about a film being nearly three hours long, this story feels like an epic tale of love that needed every last second of that time to tell its story. The acting was also superb. The characters feel so alive and real to the point that someone could tell me this was based on a true story and I'd believe it. The way the narrative is framed was also brilliant. This film is a story rooted in the importance of timing and the danger of making rash promises to God. There is an element of tragedy to this film, but at the same time it's hopeful in how it presents love. I don't think I've ever seen a musical film as compelling as this. This is truly a unique piece of cinema and I'm so happy it was made. It was very comforting for me at this time of loss and sadness. On some level, watching this helped me to believe that in the right time, love will find me too. Sometimes it really does come down to having the patience to wait for it. Beautiful film. Loved it. I would encourage anyone to watch it, especially the hopeless romantics of the world. God bless everyone who was part of its production.

FANTASTIC
This movie was the best I have seen in a while and watched it again. SRK, Katrina, and Anushka did a wonderful job. I have read good reviews and bad ones but truly this movie is timeless..if you believe in love you are in for a great treat. I had bought two copies of this movie one for me and one for my sister in law and she too enjoyed the movie. Of course there is my teenage daughter who also enjoyed it very much. I have to say that SRK looks very handsome with the beard and mustache it so makes him look like a totally different person, too bad he doesn't have this look in more of his movies. Yash Chopra has done a fantastic job with his last movie and it funny how everything came together for him the music and lyrics from AR Rahman and Gulzar to the previews of this movie which was more in gear to a farewell to his directorial but god had other plans

A story of true love, friendship, commitment and the relationship we define with our God
Love, love, love this movie. Anyone who didn’t doesn’t have a heart. SRK was magnificent. I am watching all his movies, from his early years to current and love them all, but am partial to the current ones. He just gets better and better. If you’re interested in seeing who he is as a human being, google his lectures, they’re wonderful. Some actors and actresses are more than their art, SRK is one of those. As a middle class woman , born and raised in the USA, I hope you check out this movie and others...so different than what we’re getting from Hollywood. If only I could get my husband to watch (subtitles are an issue for him), he could learn something and I would be one happy lady <wink>.

Remind me of Veer-Zaara
I really loved this film. It had all the components to be a big success. But something smelled like repetition and new at the same time.-Time component: Again, 'Veer' had to wait, to see her love again, and as a top of it, he looses his memory.-Another girl: He had to deal with this other girl. At least this time she was funny (because she wasn't a lawyer, right? lol)-Another country: Well, she was in London, he was in India, but they were apart and it was unfair again, at least he wasn't in jail right?-Army career: Veer was an army member, but this time, he was in the bomb squad, not a pilot, what a twist. What do u think? since Veer-Zaara to Jab Tak Hai Jaan, what have they innovated? And do you know what is the weirdest? I really loooove this film?I was just giving a thought.... This just occur to me, just now :-P

**SPOILERS** I liked almost everything but...
I liked almost everything about this movie but the one (or maybe two) things I did not like ruined the overall enjoyment of this movie. First, I'm not a fan of Kaitrina Kaif's acting in this movie; I have not watched many of her other films but she was not dynamic to me. Also, the chemistry between she and SRK (to me) was not electrifying which would be okay if it weren't for the fact that his chemistry with Anushka Sharma was incredibly palatable. Her character, Akira, was also just so much more interesting and seemed to match the character of Samar so much better, and yet... he chooses the Meera in the end. I get it, I get it. Long suffering love finally having it's time of bloom, but honestly, I just didn't like it. I wanted him to ride off into the sunset on his motorcycle with badass Akira and realize that he could fall in love again and not have to torture himself. But hey, that's just me. Overall, it's still a good movie and I always enjoy watching SRK.

THE BEST LOVE STORY I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!
JAB TAK HAI JAANThis movie totally swept me off my feet. I am a man, and have seen a few love stories in my life, like Somewhere in Time, Doctor Zhivago, Love Story, etc. This movie tops them all.The emotion of true love of a man and women has never been depicted on the silver screen like this one. I am a macho type man, and througout the movie I had wet eyes.It reminded me a lot of my love story, and life today with my wife. A real treasure. I am not Indian,so this is one of the first 3rd Hindi Movie I have seen and believe me this deserved an accademy award in all respects, storyline, acting, and music. I will never forget this film.My hats off to the late director, (Yash Chopra) A real masterpiece indeed!!!
